Tea buying guide
Pick a green tea you will enjoy brewing
Green tea can be grassy, sweet, floral, roasted, minty or fruit-led. Choose between a straightforward everyday green, a flavoured blend, loose leaf or matcha-style powder, then follow the individual brewing instructions to protect the flavour.
What to compare
- Start with plain or lightly flavoured tea bags for convenience; move to loose leaf when you want to explore origin and processing styles.
- Matcha powder is whisked into the drink and is not the same format as an ordinary infused green tea bag.
- Check each product for caffeine and temperature guidance; green does not automatically mean caffeine-free.
Questions about this collection
Does green tea contain caffeine?
Usually, yes. Green tea is made from the tea plant and naturally contains caffeine unless the product is specifically decaffeinated. The amount varies by tea and brewing method.
Why can green tea taste bitter?
Water that is too hot, too much leaf or a long steep can pull out more bitterness. Follow the pack instructions and shorten or cool the brew if the first cup tastes harsh.
Is matcha the same as green tea bags?
Matcha is a powdered green tea whisked into water, so the leaf is consumed in the drink. A green tea bag is infused and then removed; the formats brew and taste differently.
