A Good Cup of Sweet Ginger Tea

A warming cup of sweet ginger tea, brewed long for the pyramid bag and lifted with a coin of fresh ginger and a little honey.

A Good Cup Of Sweet Ginger Tea

Sweet ginger is one of those teas that earns its keep when you are cold, tired or a bit under the weather. The pyramid bag has real ginger in it, but it pays to give it five minutes rather than the usual three, as the bigger bags are slower to let go of their flavour.

For more warmth, drop a thin coin of fresh root ginger in alongside the bag and leave it there while you drink. A small spoon of honey rounds off the heat without burying the spice.

You'll need

  • 1 pyramid tea bag of Teapigs Sweet Ginger
  • 250ml freshly drawn water at 100C, just off the boil
  • 1 thin coin of fresh root ginger, peeled
  • 1/2 teaspoon of clear honey
  • 1 280ml mug, warmed
  • 1 saucer for covering during steep

Method

  1. Warm your mug and drop in the pyramid bag along with a thin coin of fresh ginger.
  2. Pour over 250ml of just boiled water.
  3. Cover and steep for a full five minutes, as the larger pyramid bags need the extra time.
  4. Lift out the bag but leave the ginger coin in.
  5. Stir in half a teaspoon of honey until it dissolves.
  6. Tip: leave the ginger coin in as you drink and the cup keeps getting warmer towards the bottom.
What you'll end up with: A warming, gently spiced cup of ginger tea, fresh ginger giving it an extra kick and honey softening the edge.
