I will set the sleepy-tea positioning aside and tell you what is in the cup, because it is more distinctive than the name suggests. This is seventy-one percent liquorice root with twenty-three percent mint, so the liquorice absolutely dominates: an intense, honeyed, naturally sweet body with no sugar added, and the peppermint cuts a cool, crisp line through it rather than leading. The texture is what surprises, syrupy and heavy for a herbal, properly coating the mouth where most evening teas are a thin wash. Loving it depends entirely on loving liquorice. If you do, this is one of the most satisfying liquorice-mint cups going; if you do not, the mint will not rescue it for you and a plain peppermint is the better evening choice. Within our liquorice-led herbals it is the mint-cooled one, where Teapigs Fennel and Liquorice is aniseed-led and Sweet Ginger is warming. Caffeine-free, no sugar needed; a honey swirl only pushes the sweet further. Take it as a characterful after-dinner cup, not a sleep aid.
