- 1 bag Twinings Superblends Digest
- 250ml water straight off the boil
- Pour 250ml of water straight off the boil over one bag.
- Cover the mug with a saucer and leave it the full five minutes.
- Ignore how it tastes at three minutes. The fig has already sweetened the water and the roots have barely started.
- Lift the bag out and drink it clear, without adding anything.
What you'll end up with: A warm root infusion with a sweet base rather than the thin fruit drink a short steep gives you. No honey required, which is the whole point of the fig.
Fig Golden Latte
How to make Fig Golden Latte with Twinings Superblends Digest.
- 1 bag Twinings Superblends Digest
- 150ml water straight off the boil
- 100ml oat or whole milk
- A pinch of ground cinnamon
- Brew one bag in only 150ml for five minutes, covered, so the base comes out concentrated.
- Heat 100ml of milk until it steams and froth it if you can.
- Lift the bag out, pour the milk in and dust the top with cinnamon.
What you'll end up with: A golden latte that is already sweetened from inside the bag, with no citrus in the blend to curdle the milk and no sugar needed at all.
The Strong Pot

- 3 bags Twinings Superblends Digest
- 500ml water straight off the boil
- Steep three bags in 500ml for eight minutes with the lid on.
- Lift all three bags out before the first pour.
- Leave the pot on the side. With no tannin in it, it will not turn bitter for an hour.
- Use what is left as the base for the iced build or the syrup.
What you'll end up with: A pot for a long evening, and the working base for everything else below. Black tea cannot sit like this without going stewed.
Iced Fig and Ginger
How to make Iced Fig and Ginger with Twinings Superblends Digest.
- 3 bags Twinings Superblends Digest
- 400ml just boiled water
- A tall glass filled with ice
- A wedge of lime
- Steep three bags in 400ml for eight minutes, then lift them out.
- Cool the infusion completely before it goes near ice.
- Fill a glass with ice, pour the infusion over and squeeze in a wedge of lime.
- Stir once and drink while the ice is still whole.
What you'll end up with: The fruit sweetness reads more clearly cold, so this needs no sugar at all, and warming ginger against cold liquid works far better than it sounds.
Fig and Root Syrup
How to make Fig and Root Syrup with Twinings Superblends Digest.
- 4 bags Twinings Superblends Digest
- 250ml just boiled water
- 120g caster sugar
- Steep four bags in 250ml for ten minutes, covered, then lift them out and squeeze them against the side of the jug.
- Warm the infusion in a small pan with the sugar until every grain has dissolved. Less sugar than usual, because the fig has already contributed.
- Simmer three or four minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Cool and bottle. It keeps in the fridge for a fortnight.
What you'll end up with: A dark amber syrup that goes over yoghurt and ice cream as readily as it goes into soda water, and it takes less sugar than a plain ginger syrup does.
Figs and Pears Poached in the Liquor
How to make Figs and Pears Poached in the Liquor with Twinings Superblends Digest.
- 4 bags Twinings Superblends Digest
- 600ml just boiled water
- 3 firm pears and 4 fresh figs
- 80g caster sugar
- Steep four bags in 600ml for ten minutes to make a strong liquor, then lift the bags out.
- Dissolve the sugar into the hot liquor in a wide pan.
- Poach the peeled pears at a bare simmer for twenty minutes, then add the halved figs for the last five.
- Reduce the remaining liquor by half and spoon it over.
What you'll end up with: Fruit poached in an infusion that already tastes of fig, which is the neatest trick in this box and needs no spices adding to the pan.
