Yogi's first Cocoa-forward blend. Cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and a meaningful chunk of cocoa shell. Tastes more like a dark chocolate chai than a hot cocoa: properly spiced, slightly bitter, surprisingly sophisticated for the wellness tea aisle.
Cocoa shell is the husk left over from chocolate processing. It is brewed in much the same way as tea: hot water, four minutes, gives a brown red cup with chocolate and roasted nut notes. Caffeine is very low (cocoa contains theobromine instead, which is gentler), and the natural fat in the shell adds a slight mouth coating richness most herbal teas lack. A by product of chocolate that has quietly become its own ingredient.
Brew strong: one bag in 200ml of boiling water for four to five minutes. Drink it black to taste the spice. Add a splash of milk and it pivots into chocolate chai territory, slightly richer than a Yogi Classic Chai with milk because of the cocoa fats. A teaspoon of brown sugar and it crosses into proper dessert. Bedtime mug, not a breakfast tea.
Yogi's wellness range has always been about layering flavour rather than masking it. Cocoa Spice is the same approach: real cocoa, named spices, no synthetic chocolate flavour. Compare to most "chocolate" herbal teas where the cocoa note is dropped in via concentrate. The difference shows up on the open box. It smells like a Christmas market, not a confectionery factory.
Sits naturally in the same drawer as a Pukka Mexican Cocoa or a Teapigs Chocolate Chai for anyone building a cosy evening collection. It is the spiciest of the three. We are stocking it through the autumn winter window and will review for summer based on uptake.
