LCurator note · Pukka
Berry does the talking here and chamomile stays behind it, which makes this gentler than the floral cups that usually fill the last hour of an evening. The colour oversells it: a deep red pour, then a light and clean drink. Anyone expecting jam in a mug will find it modest. Caffeine-free, with no tea leaf in it at all, so the hour genuinely does not matter.

About this tea

Pukka Organic Night Time Berry Herbal Tea With Chamomile 20 Sleep, in brief.

Pukka Organic Night Time Berry is the fruit version of an evening chamomile, picked into the Teas.co.uk curator selection as the caffeine-free late-evening cup for people who have tried a plain chamomile and found it thin.

Twenty bags in 32g, which is 1.6g each, light by tea standards and normal for an infusion. Berry sits in front and chamomile underneath, so the first thing you taste is fruit. Five minutes covered rather than three, because dried fruit has to rehydrate before it gives anything up. The price in your basket is the price.

That is a light dose by the standards of a tea bag and a normal one for a herbal infusion, because dried flowers and fruit take up far more room per gram than tea leaf does. It also explains the brewing advice further down: a light, bulky blend needs more time in the water, not less.

Curator notes: the tasting profile is our own editorial assessment against the current pack format and the brand's published description. We run same-day UK dispatch on every order placed before 2pm Monday to Friday. Common questions are answered in the detailed Q and A tab below.

The Story Behind Pukka

Chamomile has been the default British evening infusion for a long time, and it has a recruitment problem: a lot of people find a plain chamomile thin and faintly medicinal, try it once and never buy another box. Putting berry in front of it is a straightforward answer to that. The chamomile is still doing the structural work at the bottom of the cup, but the first thing you taste is fruit, and the result is a blend people finish rather than pour away.

Packaging: Follow the current UK pack and local-authority guidance; components can require different disposal routes.

What You Are Actually Buying

  • No caffeine at all: there is no tea leaf in it, so it is caffeine free by composition rather than by decaffeination. That is the single most important thing about an evening drink.

Getting It Right in the Cup

  • Water temperature: 100 degrees, freshly boiled.
  • Measure: one bag per 250 to 300ml.
  • Steep: five to seven minutes, covered.
  • Service: black. No milk, no sugar; the fruit sweetness is the point.
  • Storage: sealed, dry and dark. Fruit blends lose their aroma faster than black tea does, so keep the box closed rather than open on the side.
  • Best with: the last hour of the evening, a book, or after a late meal when you want something warm and not caffeinated.

The taste profile

Berry●●●●○ 4/5
The lead, and the reason to choose this over a plain chamomile. Dried berry gives a deep jammy sweetness rather than a sharp fresh-fruit one.
Chamomile●●●○○ 3/5
The base underneath. Soft, faintly appley, and much quieter here than in a single-note chamomile, where it has nowhere to hide.
Sweetness●●●●○ 4/5
All of it from the fruit. There is nothing added, and it is more noticeable than in almost any other evening blend.
Weight in the mouth●●○○○ 2/5
Light and clean. This is a gentle drink by design and it is not trying to be anything else at eleven at night.

Side by side

How does it compare

vs Pukka Organic Three Chamomile, 20 Tea BagsThe same house taking the opposite approach, with chamomile alone and nothing in front of it. Choose the Three Chamomile if you already like chamomile, and this one if you have tried it and found it thin.
vs Pukka Organic Peace Tea With Chamomile, 20 Tea BagsThe nearest neighbour in the range, chamomile-led with other botanicals around it rather than fruit-led. Peace is the more herbal of the two; this is the sweeter.

A light bulky blend like this needs the opposite treatment from a tea bag. There is no tannin in it, so it cannot go bitter, and the components that matter are slow: dried fruit has to rehydrate before it gives anything up. Boiling water, five minutes, covered.

Ideal brewing conditions · Hot

The Evening Mug

01
WaterStraight off the boil at 100 degrees. Dried fruit and flowers need full heat, and a cup made with water that has stood tastes thin and faintly of nothing.
02
MeasureOne bag to 250 to 300ml. The bag is light, so a very large mug will dilute it more than you expect.
03
SteepFive minutes minimum, and seven does no harm. At three minutes you have the berry and none of the chamomile.
04
Cover itA saucer over the mug keeps the aromatics in the liquid. It matters more with a light blend than with a strong one.
05
ServiceBlack and unsweetened. The fruit is doing the sweetening, and milk has nothing to add.
Ideal brewing conditions · Hot

The Wind-Down Pot

01
Two bags to 500mlIn a covered pot, seven minutes, which is enough for two mugs across an evening.
02
It will not spoil. With no tannin in the blend, a pot left standing gets stronger rather than harsher, so the second mug is as good as the first.
03
Warm rather than scaldingBrew it hot and let it fall to drinking temperature rather than sipping it too early. Most of the berry only reads properly once the cup has cooled a little.

Made with this tea

The Evening Mug

How to make the standard mug of Pukka Night Time Berry.

5 min 1 mug Easy
You'll need
  • 1 bag Pukka Organic Night Time Berry
  • 250 to 300ml water straight off the boil
  • A saucer or small plate
Method
  1. Pour 250 to 300ml of water straight off the boil over one bag. Resist a bigger mug: 1.6g dilutes quickly.
  2. Cover with a saucer for the first two minutes.
  3. Steep five minutes, then lift the bag out.
  4. Let it fall to drinking temperature rather than sipping it scalding. The berry reads better once it has cooled a little.

What you'll end up with: A soft jammy evening cup with the chamomile sitting underneath rather than on top.

The Longer Steep, For More Chamomile

How to bring the flower forward instead of the fruit.

7 min 1 mug Easy
You'll need
  • 1 bag Pukka Organic Night Time Berry
  • 250ml water straight off the boil
  • A saucer
Method
  1. Pour and cover as usual.
  2. Steep a full seven minutes.
  3. Lift the bag out and drink it as it cools.
  4. Flower heads rehydrate more slowly than dried fruit, so the extra two minutes bring the chamomile up without touching the berry.

What you'll end up with: The same blend reading as a chamomile with fruit in it rather than a fruit tea with chamomile.

The Wind-Down Pot

How to make enough for a whole evening.

7 min 2 mugs Easy
You'll need
  • 2 bags Pukka Organic Night Time Berry
  • 500ml water straight off the boil
  • A covered teapot
Method
  1. Add two bags to a warmed pot with 500ml of just boiled water.
  2. Cover and steep seven minutes.
  3. Leave the bags in if you like. With no tannin in the blend, standing makes it stronger rather than harsher.

What you'll end up with: Two mugs across an evening, the second as good as the first.

Chilled Berry Infusion

How to turn the evening blend into a cold drink.

6 min + chill 1 tall glass Easy
You'll need
  • 2 bags Pukka Organic Night Time Berry
  • 300ml water straight off the boil
  • A full glass of ice
  • A slice of lemon, optional
Method
  1. Brew two bags in 300ml, covered, for six minutes.
  2. Cool completely, then pour over a full glass of ice.
  3. Add a slice of lemon if you want a sharper edge.
  4. Brew hot and chill rather than cold brewing, because cold water barely rehydrates dried fruit at all.

What you'll end up with: A deep fruit cooler with no caffeine, no sugar and none of the acidity of a squash.

Warm Berry and Honey

How to build a simple nightcap on the blend.

5 min 1 mug Easy
You'll need
  • 1 bag Pukka Organic Night Time Berry
  • 250ml water straight off the boil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • A squeeze of lemon, optional
Method
  1. Brew one bag, covered, for five minutes.
  2. Stir in the honey while the cup is still hot.
  3. Add a squeeze of lemon last, off the heat, if you want it brighter.
  4. Most people find this blend sweet enough without honey, so taste it before you reach for the jar.

What you'll end up with: A rounder, slightly richer version of the standard evening cup.

Berry Syrup for Puddings

How to reduce the blend into a fruit syrup.

12 min 1 small jar Medium
You'll need
  • 4 bags Pukka Organic Night Time Berry
  • 200ml water straight off the boil
  • 100g caster sugar
  • Juice of half a lemon
Method
  1. Brew four bags in only 200ml of just boiled water, covered, for ten minutes.
  2. Lift the bags out and stir in the sugar over a low heat until dissolved.
  3. Add the lemon juice off the heat, then cool and refrigerate.
  4. Four bags in a fifth of the usual water is what makes this a syrup rather than a weak cordial.

What you'll end up with: A berry syrup for yoghurt, ice cream or a poached-fruit pudding.

What’s in it, what to know

Ingredients and dietary suitabilityThe published ingredient list for this barcode names none of the 14 major allergens. Check the current UK pack before purchase; formulations and allergen advice can change.
CaffeineBerry and chamomile are a fruit and a flower, and no tea leaf appears anywhere in the name, so the cup is caffeine free by composition rather than by decaffeination.
What we do not claimThe pack is sold as a night-time blend and the word appears in its name. That is the brand's positioning, and it describes when people drink it rather than what it does.
Traditional useChamomile has been taken as a warm evening drink in Britain for a very long time, and that custom is the tradition this blend sits in. It is a statement about habit, not about health.
Organic and other certificationsThe brand states organic in the product name and we record it on that basis.
Formulations change; the current UK pack is always the final word on ingredients and allergens.

Product questions

Asked about this tea

Berry first and chamomile underneath. Dried fruit gives a deep jammy sweetness rather than the sharp note of fresh fruit, and the chamomile sits below it as a soft, faintly appley base. If you have tried a plain chamomile and found it thin, this is the blend that solves that.
