Nescafé Cappuccino Decaf Unsweetened Taste: The After-Dinner Sachet

Decaffeinated milk sachets are easy to find and so are unsweetened ones, but a sachet that is both is unusual. That pairing is what lets it work as an after-dinner or late-shift milky coffee, with little caffeine and no sugar you did not ask for.

Each of the seven sachets holds fifteen grams of powder, so the box carries 105g in all, and each makes a single mug. Decaffeinated is not the same as caffeine-free. The process takes out most of the caffeine, but a small residual amount stays in every decaf coffee. If you must avoid caffeine altogether, reach for a herbal infusion instead of any coffee. Pouring for foam

The foam is made by the water striking the powder, not by the spoon. Pour from a height and briskly, then resist the urge to stir, because each stir knocks the head down. Getting this right counts for more with a decaf, since the decaf process strips a little of the coffee's aroma, so the foam has more work to do holding what is left close to your nose.

Water around 90°C is the aim, so give the kettle a minute's rest once it has clicked off; boiling water leaves powdered milk tasting cooked and slightly metallic. Size the mug at 180 to 200ml per sachet, because a big cup thins both the milk and the foam. Made on hot milk instead of water, the drink turns much richer.
