The Story Behind Azera
Azera sits above Original and Gold Blend in the Nescafe line-up and exists because of a gap that opened in British coffee drinking: people who had got used to a proper black coffee out of the house, but who were not going to grind beans before work. The answer was to put actual ground coffee into the jar alongside the soluble, so the drink carries aroma and body that pure soluble struggles to hold. Nestle has produced soluble coffee under the Nescafe name since 1938; Azera is a considerably more recent addition.

Getting A Good Mug Out Of This Pack
- Water temperature: 90 to 95°C. Boiling water scorches the ground fraction and brings out harshness.
- Measure: Around 2g per 200ml. If the cup tastes thin, add coffee rather than waiting; there is nothing to steep.
- Let it stand: Thirty seconds after stirring lets the grounds settle and the aroma peak.
- Black first: Try it black before you reach for the milk. This variant is built for it, and the aroma is what you are paying for.
- Iced version: Dissolve two teaspoons in 40ml of hot water, sweeten while warm, pour over a full glass of ice and top with cold water for a long iced americano.
- Caffeine note: A regular caffeinated coffee, so treat it as a morning and early-afternoon drink.
- Best with: A plain biscuit, dark chocolate, or nothing at all.
Storage And Honest Notes
The sediment is real. Any coffee built on micro-ground beans leaves a fine residue at the bottom of the mug. Some people find it a feature and some find it irritating, and it is worth knowing before you buy rather than after. If it bothers you, Gold Blend is the cleaner cup.

Azera rewards more care than standard instant, because there is a ground fraction that genuinely responds to water temperature. Boiling water pulls harshness out of those grounds in a way it cannot from pure soluble, so resting the kettle matters more here than in any other jar on this page.

- 1 to 2 rounded teaspoons Nescafe Azera Americano
- 200ml water, boiled then rested 30 seconds
- Spoon around 2g of Nescafe Azera Americano Instant Coffee, 140g into a warmed mug.
- Pour 200ml of water at 90 to 95°C over it and stir properly.
- Wait thirty seconds for the ground fraction to settle; the aroma peaks just after that pause.
- Drink black, and leave the last centimetre where the sediment sits.
What you'll end up with: The drink the product is named after and the one it is built for. If you only ever add milk, you are paying a premium for aroma you are not tasting.
Home Flat White
How to make Home Flat White with Nescafe Azera Americano.
- 2 teaspoons Nescafe Azera Americano
- 40ml hot water
- 120ml whole milk
- Dissolve 2 teaspoons of Nescafe Azera Americano Instant Coffee, 140g in 40ml of hot water and stir hard until a little foam forms on top.
- Heat 120ml of whole milk until steaming, not boiling.
- Froth it with a hand whisk, or seal it in a jar and shake hard for twenty seconds.
- Pour milk into coffee slowly, holding the foam back with a spoon until the last moment.
What you'll end up with: Closer to a coffee-shop flat white than instant has any right to get, with no machine.
Long Iced Americano
How to make Long Iced Americano with Nescafe Azera Americano.
- 2 teaspoons Nescafe Azera Americano
- 40ml hot water
- A full glass of ice
- 150ml cold water
- A strip of orange peel, optional
- Dissolve 2 teaspoons of Nescafe Azera Americano Instant Coffee, 140g in 40ml of hot water.
- Stir in any sugar now, while the liquid is still warm.
- Fill a tall glass to the top with ice and pour the concentrate over it.
- Lengthen with 150ml of cold water and twist a strip of orange peel over the surface.
What you'll end up with: Cold suppresses bitterness, so this reads sweeter than the same coffee hot. Fill the glass properly with ice or it dilutes to nothing.
Whipped Coffee Top
How to make Whipped Coffee Top with Nescafe Azera Americano.
- 2 tablespoons Nescafe Azera Americano
- 2 tablespoons caster sugar
- 2 tablespoons boiling water
- 300ml cold milk
- Ice
- Combine 2 tablespoons each of Nescafe Azera Americano Instant Coffee, 140g, caster sugar and boiling water in a bowl.
- Whisk hard for three to four minutes until it turns pale and holds soft peaks.
- Fill two glasses with ice and cold milk.
- Spoon the whipped coffee on top and stir through before drinking.
What you'll end up with: A thick coffee foam over cold milk. Equal parts coffee, sugar and water is the ratio that works; changing it stops it whipping.
Espresso Martini Base (Adult)
How to make Espresso Martini Base (Adult) with Nescafe Azera Americano.
- 2 heaped teaspoons Nescafe Azera Americano
- 40ml hot water
- 50ml vodka
- 20ml coffee liqueur
- Plenty of ice
- Dissolve 2 heaped teaspoons of Nescafe Azera Americano Instant Coffee, 140g in 40ml of hot water and cool it completely.
- Shake the cold coffee with 50ml of vodka, 20ml of coffee liqueur and a shaker full of ice, hard, for fifteen seconds.
- Strain into a chilled coupe.
- The foam comes from shaking hard and from the coffee being properly cold first.
What you'll end up with: A serviceable espresso martini without an espresso machine. Warm coffee will not foam, so do not rush the cooling step.
Tiramisu Style Soak
How to make Tiramisu Style Soak with Nescafe Azera Americano.
- 4 heaped teaspoons Nescafe Azera Americano
- 250ml hot water
- 1 packet sponge fingers
- 500g mascarpone beaten with sugar
- Cocoa powder to dust
- Dissolve 4 heaped teaspoons of Nescafe Azera Americano Instant Coffee, 140g in 250ml of hot water and cool completely.
- Dip the sponge fingers one at a time, quickly; a long soak turns them to mush.
- Layer them with the sweetened mascarpone in a dish.
- Chill for at least four hours and dust with cocoa just before serving.
What you'll end up with: A strong, aromatic soak that holds its own against mascarpone. Instant is genuinely better than weak brewed coffee for this job because you control the strength exactly.
