A polished organic shortlist should help you find a drink, not merely repeat certification language. Rooibos, green tea, chai and evening herbals remain fundamentally different cups.
What organic tells you—and what it does not
Organic certification concerns how ingredients are produced and handled under a defined standard. It does not guarantee stronger flavour, higher caffeine, plastic-free packaging, ethical perfection or a health outcome. Those are separate questions requiring separate evidence.
Build the shortlist by tea family
Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free and red-brown in the cup; green tea comes from Camellia sinensis and contains caffeine; chai may use black tea, rooibos or only spices; herbal night-time blends combine several plants. Comparing all five only by pence per bag would conceal the decision that matters most.
Pack size and format
Dragonfly’s 40-bag boxes suit a regular household caddy. Yogi’s 17-bag and Pukka’s 20-bag boxes reduce commitment and encourage variety but generally raise the visible cost per serving. Bag weight and leaf format can also differ, so bag count is not a quality score.
Packaging claims need layers
Tea bag, string, tag, envelope and outer carton may use different materials. “Plastic-free” or “compostable” should identify which component, under what conditions and on what date. Follow the current pack’s local disposal guidance rather than an undated brand-wide assumption.

How we keep this guide useful
Teas.co.uk is the retailer and the editor of this guide. No brand paid for inclusion or position. We start with products that are published and in stock in our own shop, then separate comparable products by tea family, ingredients, format, caffeine position and intended use. “Best” means the best fit for a stated need within this dated shortlist—not a universal tasting result.
Product names such as Sleep, Digest, Defence, Detox or Immune are treated as range labels, not medical evidence. Always read the current ingredient, allergen and preparation information on the pack. If you are pregnant, take medicines or manage a health condition, check ingredients such as liquorice root with an appropriate clinician. Last editorial and catalogue review: 8 August 2026.
