The recipe

Exact quantities, then the method.

This is a festive red sangria with a spiced-tea backbone. Chilled Twinings Orange and Cinnamon deepens the red wine and fresh orange, giving the jug a cosy, lightly spiced edge that sits somewhere between sangria and mulled wine, but served cold. For over-18s, in sensible measures.

⏱ 15 min plus chilling 🍽 Makes about 6 glasses 📊 Easy 📚 Tea Cocktails (Adults Only)

You'll need

  • 3 tea bags of Twinings Orange and Cinnamon
  • 300ml freshly boiled water (100C)
  • 1 bottle chilled red wine
  • 1 orange and 1 apple, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons honey, or to taste
  • A cinnamon stick, soda water to top, and plenty of ice

Method

  1. Steep the 3 tea bags in the boiled water for 4 minutes, then lift them out and stir in the honey while warm.
  2. Leave the spiced tea to cool, then chill it well.
  3. Pour the red wine and the chilled tea into a large jug, add the sliced fruit and a cinnamon stick.
  4. Chill for at least an hour so the flavours mingle.
  5. To serve, fill glasses with ice, pour over the sangria and top each with a splash of soda. Drink responsibly.
  6. Use a young, fruity Rioja or Tempranillo, not a tannic Cabernet; the lighter red carries the cinnamon and orange better.
What you'll end up with: A cosy, lightly spiced red sangria where orange-and-cinnamon tea lifts the wine and fruit.
