Matcha Vodka Cocktail
A matcha cocktail shaken with vodka, fresh lime and agave, clean and grassy, with an easy alcohol free swap.

Matcha makes a brilliant cocktail base: its grassy, slightly bitter edge stands up to spirits the way few teas can, and it lends a drink a lovely natural green colour with no syrup needed. Here it is shaken with vodka, fresh lime and a little agave into something clean and not too sweet, the sort of thing to serve before dinner. If you would rather skip the alcohol, swap the vodka for chilled tonic and it still works.

You'll need
- 200ml of chilled San Benedetto Matcha Green Tea (from the 400ml bottle)
- 40ml premium vodka (or 40ml chilled tonic water for alcohol free)
- 15ml fresh lime juice
- 10ml light agave syrup
- 1 fresh mint leaf
- 1 250ml coupe glass, chilled in the freezer for ten minutes
- 1 cocktail shaker with cubed ice
Method
- Chill a coupe glass and fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add the chilled matcha, the vodka (or tonic), the lime juice and the agave to the shaker.
- Shake hard for about ten seconds, until the outside of the shaker frosts.
- Strain into the chilled coupe.
- Float a mint leaf on top and serve.
- Tip: a hard shake gives matcha a fine froth on top, so do not skip it, even for the alcohol free version.
