The recipe

Exact quantities, then the method.

Iced lemon, ginger and turmeric is a glowing golden drink, bright and gently peppery, and just the thing on a hot day. Brew it strong, chill it, and lengthen it with soda, adding a pinch of black pepper so the turmeric actually carries. Caffeine-free as a soft drink, with an easy adult version using gin or vodka.

It uses Good Earth Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric, a caffeine-free infusion. Ten minutes plus chilling.

⏱ 10 min + chill 🍽 Serves 4 📊 Easy 📚 Tea Cocktails (Adults Only)

You'll need

  • 4 Good Earth Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric tea bags
  • 500ml rolling boil water
  • 2 tablespoons honey, to taste
  • A small pinch of cracked black pepper
  • 500ml chilled soda water
  • Ice, lemon wheels and mint, to serve; optional 50ml gin or vodka per glass

Method

  1. Steep the 4 bags in 500ml rolling boil water, covered, for 6 minutes for a strong golden base; turmeric needs heat and time to colour.
  2. Lift the bags out, stir in the honey while warm, and add a small pinch of cracked black pepper; the pepper helps the turmeric come through once iced.
  3. Cool to room temperature, then chill until cold.
  4. Fill tall glasses or a jug with ice and divide the golden base, then top with chilled soda water.
  5. Garnish with lemon wheels and mint. For an adult long drink, add 50ml gin or vodka to the glass before the soda.
  6. Caffeine free. Keep it covered in the fridge and drink it soon; we don't give a keeping time for home-made iced tea.
What you'll end up with: A long, golden drink with lemon, ginger and a warm turmeric backbone, brightened with soda: caffeine-free, with an easy adult version.
