The recipe

Exact quantities, then the method.

Green Tea Gin and Tonic gives the classic G and T a soft, fragrant green-tea layer that sits beautifully under the botanicals of the gin. Using Tetley Decaf Pure Green means there is no caffeine to keep you up alongside your evening drink.

Serves one. Brew a small, strong decaf concentrate at 80C and chill it, then build the drink over ice. To make it alcohol-free, leave out the gin and lengthen with more tonic and tea.

⏱ 5 min plus cooling 🍽 Serves 1 📊 Easy 📚 Tea Cocktails (Adults Only)

You'll need

  • 1 tea bag of Tetley Decaf Pure Green Tea
  • 80ml just-off-boil water cooled to about 80C (boil, then rest the kettle for roughly 90 seconds)
  • 50ml gin
  • 100ml chilled tonic water
  • Ice, cucumber slices and a lime wedge to serve

Method

  1. Rest the boiled kettle for about 90 seconds, then steep one bag in 80ml of roughly 80C water for 3 minutes to make a small, strong concentrate. Lift the bag out and chill it.
  2. Fill a balloon glass with ice. Add the gin and the cooled green tea concentrate.
  3. Top with the tonic water and stir gently.
  4. Garnish with cucumber and a lime wedge. For an alcohol-free version, leave out the gin and add more tonic and tea.
  5. Fill the glass to the brim with ice; a packed glass melts slower than a half-full one and keeps the drink crisp.
What you'll end up with: A gin and tonic with a soft green-tea botanical layer, crisp and aromatic. Decaf, so no caffeine with your evening drink.
