Nearly everything people complain about here is self-inflicted. Wring the bag against the side of the mug, or leave it sitting past five minutes, and the astringency climbs into something hard-edged very quickly. Left alone it stays exactly where it should, and what you get is a proper mug of everyday tea rather than a polite one: brisk on top, bready underneath, dry at the close, with enough weight in the bag to survive a real splash of milk. What You Are Actually Buying
- Count and weight: eighty bags, 232 grams, which is about 2.9 grams of leaf a bag. That is a full-size everyday bag, not a cup-sized one.

Getting It Right in the Cup
- Water temperature: 100 degrees Celsius, freshly boiled, not reboiled twice over.
- Measure: one bag to 250 to 300ml.
- Steep: three to four minutes, then out.
- Milk: suits it, and the blend is built for it. Lemon works if you skip the milk.
- Hard water: flattens the brisk top note and leaves a film on the surface. Half a minute longer in the pot restores most of it.
- Storage: sealed, cool, dark and away from spices and coffee. Cardboard is porous and tea takes on kitchen smells readily.
- Not resteepable: one bag, one mug. A second pass on a used everyday bag gives coloured water and very little else.
- Best with: breakfast, mid-morning, and the mug that gets made the moment someone walks through the door.

- 250ml just boiled water
- Milk to taste
- Pour 250ml of water straight off the boil over one bag of Clipper Organic Everyday.
- Steep for three to four minutes, covered if you have a saucer to hand.
- Lift the bag out without squeezing it hard.
- Add milk last, to taste.
What you'll end up with: A brisk, malty everyday mug. Squeezing the bag is the one step that reliably makes it taste bitter, so leave it alone.
A Proper Pot for Four

- 4 bags Clipper Organic Everyday
- 1 litre just boiled water
- A warmed teapot
- Milk
- Warm the pot with a splash of boiling water and tip it away.
- Add four bags and a full litre of freshly boiled water.
- Steep four minutes, then lift every bag out.
- Cosy the pot and pour. It stays right for about twenty minutes.
What you'll end up with: Four even mugs rather than one good one and three stewed ones. Removing the bags at four minutes is the whole trick.
Iced Everyday Tea
How to make Iced Everyday Tea with Clipper Organic Everyday.
- 4 bags Clipper Organic Everyday
- 500ml just boiled water
- Ice
- Lemon
- Sugar or honey to taste
- Brew four bags in 500ml of boiling water for five minutes to make a strong concentrate.
- Sweeten while it is still hot if you want it sweet; sugar will not dissolve properly once it is cold.
- Cool to room temperature, then top up to a litre with cold water.
- Pour over a full glass of ice with a slice of lemon.
What you'll end up with: Clean, brisk iced tea with no cloudiness, because you diluted after brewing rather than brewing weak.
Overnight Cold Brew
How to make Overnight Cold Brew with Clipper Organic Everyday.
- 4 bags Clipper Organic Everyday
- 1 litre cold water
- A sealed jug
- Drop four bags into a litre of cold water in a sealed jug.
- Refrigerate for eight hours, or overnight.
- Lift the bags out and drink within two days.
- Serve straight, over ice, with no milk.
What you'll end up with: A rounder, sweeter, completely un-astringent version of the same tea. Cold water never extracts the harsh tannins, so it cannot go bitter.
Strong Tea Loaf
How to make Strong Tea Loaf with Clipper Organic Everyday.
- 3 bags Clipper Organic Everyday
- 300ml just boiled water
- 300g mixed dried fruit
- 150g soft brown sugar
- 250g self-raising flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- Brew three bags in 300ml of boiling water for six minutes to make a deliberately strong, tannic brew.
- Pour it hot over the dried fruit and the sugar and leave overnight to soak.
- Stir in the flour and the beaten egg the next day.
- Bake in a lined loaf tin at 160 degrees Celsius fan for about an hour, until a skewer comes out clean.
- Cool fully, then serve sliced with butter.
What you'll end up with: A traditional fruited tea loaf. Here the tannin is the point rather than a fault, because it keeps the fruit from tasting merely sweet.
