Costa Coffee instant range now on teas.co.uk

Costa's three signature instant lines: Latte, Cappuccino and Caramel Latte: are now stocked. 8-sachet boxes. These are decent for what they are: better than the supermarket brand instants, not as good as actual Coffee. Useful for the office desk drawer.

3-in-1 instants are a different product to regular instant coffee. The coffee solids are freeze dried or spray dried, then blended with a vegetable fat creamer (usually coconut), milk powder, and in the Caramel Latte case a sugar and flavouring system. Add hot water, stir, drink. The cappuccino froth comes from the creamer aerating as you stir.

At the office desk or in a hotel room, a Costa sachet drinks better than the half stale catering pot of percolator coffee that has been on a hot plate for two hours. At home, when you have a kettle and a moka pot and three minutes, it is a different conversation. Honesty matters when ranking instants.

Costa was bought by Coca Cola from Whitbread in 2019. The shop estate kept the branding but the retail side has been more aggressive since, with the instant range now in most UK grocery multiples. The sachet format is the heart of it: low unit price, long shelf life, easy facing at travel and convenience.
