Iced Lemon Tea Pitcher with Tetley Original English Breakfast
A classic British iced tea pitcher: strong black tea, lemon and a little sugar, chilled down over ice to serve four.

Iced Lemon Tea Pitcher is the classic British iced tea, made properly with a brisk Black Tea rather than a sugary bottle. Tetley Original English Breakfast gives it a malty backbone that stands up to ice and lemon, where a weaker tea would just vanish.

Makes a jug for four. Brew it hot and strong first, sweeten while warm, then chill it right down over ice. A handful of lemon slices and a little mint turn it into a proper summer pitcher.
You'll need
- 4 tea bags of Tetley Original English Breakfast
- 600ml freshly boiled water (100C)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons sugar or honey, to taste
- Juice of 1 lemon, plus extra slices to serve
- 400ml cold water and plenty of ice
- Mint to serve (optional)
Method
- Pour the freshly boiled water over the tea bags in a heatproof jug and steep for 4 minutes. This black tea takes the full boil.
- Lift out the bags, stir in the sugar while the tea is hot so it dissolves, then add the lemon juice and let it cool.
- Top with the cold water and a generous amount of ice to bring it to strength and chill it down.
- Add lemon slices and mint, and serve over more ice.
- If the chilled tea turns cloudy, stir in a small splash of just boiled water and it will clear again.
