The recipe

Exact quantities, then the method.

Tetley Decaf Pure Green is the same light, golden green as the regular one, just with the caffeine removed, which makes it the cup for the evening or any time you want Green Tea without the lift. The catch with decaf is that a careless brew turns it thin and hollow, so it pays to make it properly.

That mostly comes down to temperature. Even without caffeine, green leaf scorches in fully boiling water, so let the kettle drop for a minute or so before it touches the bag and the cup stays mellow and clean.

You'll need

  • 1 tea bag of Tetley Decaf Pure Green Tea
  • 200ml just-off-boil water cooled to about 80C (boil the kettle, then let it stand for roughly 90 seconds)
  • Optional: a slice of lemon or a little honey

Method

  1. Boil the kettle and give it about 90 seconds to settle to roughly 80C, since boiling water scorches green leaf even when it is decaf.
  2. Drop a bag into your mug and pour over 200ml of the cooled water.
  3. Steep for two to three minutes, then lift the bag out and let it drip, without pressing it.
  4. Drink it as it is, or with a slice of lemon or a little honey; at under four milligrams of caffeine a cup, it is fine last thing at night.
What you'll end up with: A clean, pale green cup, mellow and lightly sweet, with almost no caffeine and ready in about four minutes.
