The Standard Cup (Tropical Sun Ginseng)

Tropical Sun Ginseng is pure dried ginseng root, so it brews up earthy and faintly bittersweet, with a slow warmth that builds as you drink. It is a world away from the sharp citrus and floral herbals, more of a grown-up, contemplative cup, and it takes well to a little honey. Caffeine-free.

You'll need

  • 1 tea bag of Tropical Sun Ginseng
  • 250ml freshly boiled water (100C)
  • Honey, to taste
  • A slice of lemon, optional

Method

  1. Pop the ginseng bag in your favourite mug.
  2. Pour over the freshly boiled water and leave to steep for 5 minutes so the earthy root opens up.
  3. Lift out the bag without squeezing it, to keep the bitterness gentle.
  4. Stir in a little honey to balance the earthiness, and add a slice of lemon if you like.
  5. Sip slowly and enjoy the warming, earthy cup.
  6. Give it the full 5 minutes; a short brew tastes thin and medicinal, while the full steep rounds the bitterness.
What you'll end up with: An earthy, gently bittersweet caffeine-free cup with a slow warmth, rounded out by honey.
