I will be straight: the alkaline framing is marketing, not science, the body cannot be pH tuned by a teabag, so ignore the name and judge the cup, which is actually a pleasant one. Twelve organic herbs could easily turn into muddy hedge clippings; instead lemongrass leads brightly and keeps it zesty and fresh, with dandelion and nettle giving a gentle earthy ground underneath and a clean, bitter free finish. It is light and green tasting rather than sweet or spiced, closer to a savoury garden infusion than a fruit tea. Within the Yogi range it is the mild, everyday one, where the Immune Support is tart and herbal medicinal and the Turmeric Chai is deep and spiced. If you like clean, leafy, lemongrass forward herbals it is genuinely drinkable all day; if you want flavour and comfort, the spiced or fruit blends will satisfy more. Caffeine free, fine any time, and a honey swirl lifts the lemongrass without making it sweet. Take it as a clean daily green herbal, nothing the name promises beyond that.

The full picture of Yogi Tea Organic Alkaline Herbs, 17 Tea Bags 35.7g in one page. Who makes it, how it is brewed, what your £3.50 actually buys, and why this tea earned a spot on the curator shelf.

Yogi Tea Organic Alkaline Herbs is the multi herb Ayurvedic herbal from Yogi Tea, the German American Ayurvedic tea brand, built on lemongrass, fennel, peppermint and ginger with cinnamon, cardamom, liquorice and other Ayurvedic herbs, picked into the Teas.co.uk curator selection as the proper Ayurvedic style alternative to the Pukka or Twinings multi herb wellness blends.

The recipe draws on the Ayurvedic herbal tradition rather than the European one, the lemongrass and fennel doing the bright structural work on top of the cup, while the peppermint adds a cooling middle layer and the ginger sits underneath as a faint warming spice. The cinnamon, cardamom and liquorice round the cup with a sweet and warm backbone that distinguishes it from a plain peppermint or a plain fennel herbal. Caffeine free across the cup, the brand pitches the recipe as a daily Ayurvedic cup rather than a one off treatment.

Caffeine status: naturally zero caffeine, suits any time including late evening. Taste profile: bright lemongrass and fennel up front balanced by cool peppermint, warming ginger and a clean cinnamon cardamom liquorice finish. Lifestyle: certified organic, vegan, vegetarian, naturally gluten free and sugar free. Planet: seventeen plant based bags in fully recyclable packaging.

A seventeen bag Yogi Tea household pack at a premium price for the organic Ayurvedic tier, a sensible upgrade for any household interested in the German American Ayurvedic interpretation of multi herb daily wellness blends, the brand's reputation for proper organic certified Ayurvedic blends making this a worthwhile alternative to the standard European multi herb supermarket bags such as the Twinings Superblends line or the Pukka multi herb wellness range, the cup itself drinking cleaner than most of the broader multi herb category supermarket alternatives in the standard supermarket herbal aisle, particularly compared to the cheaper square bag multi herb alternatives where the leaf to water contact is restricted. Yogi Tea is one of the largest Ayurvedic tradition herbal brands in the European market, the line drawing on the work of the late Yogi Bhajan in bringing the herbal philosophy to the West.

Texture & appearance

Appearance and Body

The cup pours a deep gold amber, the colour intensity itself signalling the active botanical compounds in the cup. Body is medium light, the natural plant oils giving a slightly silky mouthfeel. Aroma carries the signature wellness botanical character, varied depending on the blend, with ginger, hibiscus, echinacea, or moringa typically leading.

Flavour Progression on the Palate

The first sip carries the signature alkaline herbal wellness note. The mid palate develops the supporting wellness botanicals (often spices like cinnamon, ginger, cardamom or roots like ashwagandha, liquorice). The finish is warming and slightly earthy, with the wellness positioning gently signalling itself through the cup.

Aftertaste and Finish

Holds its warming wellness character for 90-120 seconds on the breath. This is the daily ritual cup, the morning or mid afternoon wellness moment that bridges into a meal or sits between meals as the day's deliberate pause. Pair with simple foods where the warming wellness profile complements rather than competes.

Storage and Brewing Tip

Wellness botanicals are robust in storage, keep sealed and use within 12 months. Brew at 95-100°C for 5-7 minutes; the wellness compounds need full extraction time, longer steeping is encouraged. Take black or with a small amount of plant milk if the cup feels too intense; honey is the traditional sweetener for wellness brewing.

Four dimension profile
Mineral Depth 5/5
Alfalfa, parsley, nettle bring the alkaline mineral profile that defines this blend.
Herbal Earthiness 4/5
A grounding earthy body; closer to a savoury bouillon than a sweet floral infusion.
Caffeine Free Calm 5/5
Zero caffeine, for any time of day including late evening.
Functional Wellness 4/5
Ayurvedic positioning around acid alkaline balance; a wellness daily ritual.

About Yogi Tea Organic EST. 1969

Yogi Tea grew out of a recipe, not a boardroom. In 1969 the yoga teacher Yogi Bhajan began serving students a warming Ayurvedic blend of cinnamon, cardamom, clove, ginger and black pepper that they nicknamed Yogi Tea. Demand turned the recipe into a product, built from the start on the principle that a blend should be composed for balance and effect rather than only flavour, which is why the range is organised by purpose rather than just taste. Every tea bag still carries a short saying on the string tag, a small ritual signalling how the brand wants the cup approached.

The range is broad and tightly themed around wellbeing occasions: the original Classic chai, the bestselling Bedtime, throat comfort, cleanse and a wide herbal and green spread, all certified organic and built around named botanicals. The European arm operates from Germany with a strong organic and responsible sourcing commitment and long standing plastic light packaging. For our shelf Yogi Tea is one of the most characterful names in functional herbal tea. The spiced blends in particular have real depth and warmth, far more assertive than the timid supermarket norm, and the by purpose range makes it easy to point a customer at the right cup for the moment. It sits alongside Pukka at the considered end of the herbal shelf and earns it, because the blends genuinely taste composed, with a fifty year Ayurvedic lineage behind them rather than a marketing brief.

What the brand is actually doing

Yogi Tea sustainability commitments include full organic certification across every blend, plant based plastic free PLA tea bag mesh, FSC certified recyclable cardboard outer cartons, fair trade direct relationships with herbalist tradition farmers, and CO2-optimised logistics.

This tea: Caffeine free per 200ml cup.

Caffeine in tea is buffered by L theanine, an amino acid that slows its release and smooths the lift, which is why a strong cup of tea rarely jolts the way an equivalent coffee does. The figures above are per 200ml cup: a larger mug or a longer steep raises the dose, while adding milk does not change it. Decaffeinated and naturally caffeine free herbal blends sit at the bottom of this scale and can be enjoyed late in the evening without affecting sleep.
