LCurator note · Twinings
Unashamedly the grown-up Ribena cup, deep blackcurrant and blueberry over hibiscus and rosehip, nostalgic and juicy. The key difference from the Hyson blackcurrant black is that there is no tea in this at all, so it is fully caffeine-free, which makes it the better pick for the evening or for children. Rosehip rather than liquorice rounds the acidity, so it stays smooth rather than woody. Pleasant hot, very good chilled; a comforting, sugar free berry drink, nothing grand.

About this tea

Twinings Blackcurrant and Blueberry, in brief.

Twinings Blackcurrant and Blueberry is a caffeine-free fruit infusion built on hibiscus and rosehip with blackcurrant pieces, blueberry pieces and natural fruit flavourings, picked into the teas.co.uk curator selection as the deep-purple-berry alternative to a softer strawberry or peach herbal cup.

The hibiscus and rosehip do the structural work, giving the liquor its deep purple-ruby colour and the natural tartness that lets the dark berries sit forward without tipping syrupy. The blackcurrant leads with the sharper tart layer and the blueberry rounds the middle with a softer sweet note, and Twinings have built the recipe so the two dark fruits balance properly rather than one dominating the cup.

The pyramid format gives the fruit pieces room to open during the brew, and the cup works as well hot in winter as it does over ice in summer, a sensible store-cupboard fruit tea for the whole household

Curator notes: our flavour notes come from an editorial review of the box and Twinings' spec sheet, cross checked by brewing trial cups to the recommended steep time and water temperature. Steep times and water temperatures are in the brewing guides on this page, while the ingredients and flavour tabs touch on freshness and storage.

Twinings Blackcurrant and Blueberry Tea is a herbal fruit tea for anyone who likes a bold, fruity cup. Often described as "adult Ribena" in a mug, this infusion offers a confident, juicy aroma that signals immediate refreshment. Built on a base of hibiscus and rosehips, the Twinings recipe gives a

The Story Behind the Twinings

The world's oldest continuously operating tea shop is Twinings at 216 Strand, London, founded by Thomas Twining in 1706 and still trading from the original shop. Nine generations of the Twining family ran the business, and Stephen Twining is its current ambassador. In 1837 Queen Victoria gave Twinings its Royal Warrant, and tea still goes from the company to the UK Royal Household today.

Our Commitment To The Planet

Twinings says that your daily cup should not cost the earth.

  • Sourced With Care: This ethical programme goes beyond simple fair trade; it actively works to improve quality of life and empower women in the communities that grow our botanicals. By supporting incomes and raising living standards, we ensure that every cup of berry herbal tea supports sustainable livelihoods.

  • Packaging: The pyramid bags and the carton they come in can need different disposal routes, so follow the pack markings and your local authority.

The Barista Hot Serve Brewing Guide

  • Measure: Use one individual berry tea bag per cup (approximately 200ml).

  • Pour: Use freshly boiled water to rehydrate the fruit and flower components.

  • Steep: Infuse for 3 minutes for a balanced cup, or leave for up to 5 minutes for maximum berry intensity.

  • Herbalist Tip: Always cover your mug while steeping. This traps the rising steam and prevents the precious volatile fruit oils from escaping, ensuring a more aromatic experience.

The Iced Berry Cooler Brewing Guide

  • The Prep: Put 2 bags into 200ml of boiling water and leave them for 5 minutes, making a strong berry concentrate.

  • The Chill: Take the bags out, then leave the liquid until it has cooled right down.

  • The Serve: Pour over a tall glass filled with ice and top with sparkling water or a lemon slice for a refreshing iced fruit tea.

The Blueberry Moon Latte Brewing Guide

  • Why Try It: This popular alternative method softens the tartness of the hibiscus, turning your tea into a creamy, dessert like nightcap.

  • The Concentrate: Steep 2 bags in just 100ml of boiling water for 5 minutes to create a dark, syrupy botanical base.

  • The Milk: Gently heat and froth 150ml of almond milk or oat milk. The nutty side of the milk goes well with the dark berry notes.

  • The Combine: Pour the concentrate into a mug, top with the frothed milk, and add a drop of vanilla extract for the ultimate caffeine free berry latte.

How does it compare

vs Yorkshire TeaBlackcurrant and Blueberry has a more distinct flavour than the mass market choice and costs competitively, and the difference grows towards the end of the cup, as Yorkshire Tea fades.
vs PG TipsThis brand relies on a single dominant note, while Blackcurrant and Blueberry offers more balance and more aroma, and it is built for everyday drinking rather than an occasional treat.
vs Twinings English BreakfastIt costs about the same and sits on the same shelf, but Blackcurrant and Blueberry sets itself apart with certified sourcing, ethical packaging and the Twinings heritage described above.
Brewing

Brewing the perfect cup

To get the full flavour from your twinings blackcurrant and blueberry, specific brewing techniques are key. Hibiscus and fruit extracts need sustained heat before they give up their bright colour and tart berry oils.
