Where the Dilmah and Lipton caramel blends are black tea and will keep you awake, this is ninety-five percent South African rooibos, so it is the one you can drink last thing without a second thought. The caramel is rich and toffee-sweet with a warm vanilla-sugar aroma, and the rooibos underneath does the job a black base would: its naturally earthy, faintly woody character anchors the sweetness so it does not float off into sickliness. Rooibos has its own honeyed-woody signature that not everyone takes to, so if you have disliked redbush before this will not convert you. But if you want a sweet, dessert style evening cup with no caffeine, this one is better judged than most. A splash of milk turns it into a proper liquid-dessert latte. Think of it as pudding in a mug, only one you can have at bedtime.
