Tassimo works differently from the other pod systems and the difference is worth understanding, because it explains both why this box is small and why the drink comes out consistent. Every T Disc carries a barcode on it, and the machine reads that code and runs the brewing programme the disc was designed for: how much water, at what pressure, for how long. You are not choosing a size or a strength; the disc has already decided, and the machine obeys it. That is the trade Tassimo makes. Less control than a Dolce Gusto, less guesswork than anything with a fill line.
The Costa branding on the box is a licensing arrangement rather than decoration. The recipe target is Costa's; the format, the machine and the barcode system are Tassimo's. What that gets you is a milk coffee aimed at a particular high street cup rather than a generic latte, which is the reason to pick this over an unbranded own label disc.
How the Tassimo system works
The barcode is the whole idea. Each T Disc has a code printed on it that tells the machine the exact brewing programme for that drink, so a latte disc and an espresso disc get completely different treatment from the same machine without you touching a dial. It means the drink is as consistent as the disc allows, and it also means you cannot make a long version of a short drink by holding a button down.
It also means T Discs fit Tassimo machines and nothing else. They will not work in a Nespresso, a Dolce Gusto or a Lavazza A Modo Mio, and none of those pods will work in a Tassimo. - Against a Tassimo black coffee disc: an americano or espresso disc is a single disc drink, so a box goes much further. This is a two disc build.
- Against a Dolce Gusto latte pod: similar idea, different mechanism. Dolce Gusto gives you a fill line and some say over the length; Tassimo reads a barcode and makes the decision for you. Neither is better in the abstract. Tassimo suits a house that wants the same cup every time with nothing to judge.

Getting the best out of it
There is less to get wrong with Tassimo than with most systems, because the disc has already made the decisions. What is left to you is the cup and the order, and both matter more than people expect.
The standard latte serve
Cup:A tall cup or a large mug. The machine is going to deliver the volume the disc specifies whether or not your cup can take it.
Warm it:Run hot water through the cup and tip it out. A milk drink in a cold cup loses more heat than a black coffee of the same size.
Order:Milk disc first, coffee disc second into the same cup, unless the pack instructs otherwise. Follow the pack.
Do not stir immediately:Give it a moment. Tassimo lattes arrive layered and stirring straight away throws that away for no gain.
The stronger cup
Cup size:Use a smaller cup than the machine expects and the same coffee sits in less total volume. This is the main lever you have.
An extra coffee disc:If you keep single coffee discs in the house, adding one to a latte is the honest way to strengthen it. Adding water is not.
Syrup:If you want a flavoured version, add syrup at the cup after both discs rather than buying a sweeter disc you cannot adjust.

- Run both discs straight over the ice.
- Stir once and drink it before the ice has all gone.
What you'll end up with: A cold latte that has been diluted on purpose rather than by accident.
Affogato With A Spare Coffee Disc
For when the milk discs and the coffee discs stop matching up.
- 1 coffee T Disc
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- A small bowl
- Put two scoops of vanilla ice cream in a small bowl.
- Run the coffee disc straight over the ice cream.
- Eat immediately, while half of it is still frozen.
