Tassimo Cadbury Mocha, 10 Pods 160g
This is not a coffee for people who drink coffee. Cocoa leads it, the roast turns up late and only to stop the sweetness cloying, and the sugar is fixed inside the disc where you cannot get at it. Sold as a mocha it will let down anyone expecting a cappuccino with a chocolate note. Taken as a grown-up chocolate drink with something underneath it, it is exactly right, and it is the mug for a cold Sunday at four or the end of a heavy meal.
Tassimo Cadbury Mocha, in brief.
Tassimo Cadbury Mocha is the chocolate-led drink in the Tassimo range, the Cadbury milk chocolate profile with a light coffee backbone underneath it, picked into the Teas.co.uk curator selection as the pack for the gap between a hot chocolate and a cappuccino.
Tassimo Cadbury Mocha is the chocolate end of the Tassimo range: a mocha built on the Cadbury flavour rather than on a coffee house roast, so the cocoa leads and the coffee sits underneath it. It is the pack to reach for when a hot chocolate is not quite enough and a cappuccino is too much, which in most households is somewhere between four in the afternoon and last thing at night.
A mocha is a compromise drink by design. Chocolate brings sweetness, fat and body; coffee brings roast and a little bitterness to stop the sweetness becoming cloying. The Cadbury version lands firmly on the chocolate side of the middle, which is the right call for the audience buying it, and it is why this drinks more like a chocolate drink with backbone than like a coffee with chocolate in it.

The Story Behind Cadbury And The Tassimo System
Cadbury is the British chocolate house whose milk chocolate set the national palate, and that is exactly what it brings to a coffee machine: a sweet, milky cocoa profile that most people in this country recognise before they have finished the first mouthful. Tassimo is the single-serve system the drink is built for, run by Jacobs Douwe Egberts, and the partnership works because Cadbury supplies a flavour everyone already knows while Tassimo supplies the delivery.
That delivery is the interesting part. Each Tassimo disc carries a printed barcode, and the machine reads it before it brews, setting the water volume, the temperature and the flow rate for that specific drink. A chocolate drink needs a different pour from an espresso, and this is how the machine knows. There is no button to press twice, no dial to set and no way to get it wrong, which is the whole argument for a system like this over a jar of drinking chocolate and a kettle.

The taste profile
How does it compare
The machine fixes the brew, so the variables you still control with Tassimo Cadbury Mocha are the cup, the water in the tank and what you do in the thirty seconds after it finishes pouring.
The Standard Machine Serve
The Grown-Up Mocha
Made with this tea
The Standard Mocha
How to make The Standard Mocha with Tassimo Cadbury Mocha.
- 1 disc Tassimo Cadbury Mocha
- Fresh cold water in the tank
- 1 wide mug
- Rinse a wide mug with hot water and tip it out.
- Insert the disc barcode down and let the machine finish its cycle.
- Stir once, straight away, before the cocoa solids settle.
- Drink it while it is still properly hot.
What you'll end up with: A thick, sweet, recognisably Cadbury cup with just enough coffee underneath to keep it from cloying.
Salted Grown-Up Mocha
How to make Salted Grown-Up Mocha with Tassimo Cadbury Mocha.
- 1 disc Tassimo Cadbury Mocha
- A pinch of flaked sea salt
- 1 square dark chocolate
- Brew the disc into a smaller cup than usual so it arrives concentrated.
- Drop in one square of dark chocolate and stir until it melts.
- Finish with a pinch of flaked sea salt and stir once more.
- Drink straight away.
What you'll end up with: The same drink with the sweetness pulled back and a bitter edge added, which is closer to a coffee-shop mocha.
Iced Shaken Mocha
How to make Iced Shaken Mocha with Tassimo Cadbury Mocha.
- 1 disc Tassimo Cadbury Mocha
- A full glass of ice
- 1 jar with a lid
- Brew the disc into a jar and let it cool on the side for ten minutes.
- Lid the jar and shake hard for fifteen seconds; cocoa separates as it cools and shaking is what brings it back.
- Pour over a tall glass of ice.
- Drink the same day.
What you'll end up with: A drier, cleaner iced chocolate coffee, because cold suppresses the sugar and lets the roast through.
Mocha Affogato
How to make Mocha Affogato with Tassimo Cadbury Mocha.
- 1 disc Tassimo Cadbury Mocha
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- Grated dark chocolate
- Put one scoop of vanilla ice cream into each of two small glasses.
- Brew the disc and divide it between the two glasses while it is still hot.
- Grate a little dark chocolate over the top.
- Serve with a teaspoon and eat before it collapses.
What you'll end up with: A chocolate affogato that needs no syrup and no espresso machine, ready in about four minutes.
Mocha Pour-Over Pudding Sauce
How to make Mocha Pour-Over Pudding Sauce with Tassimo Cadbury Mocha.
- 1 disc Tassimo Cadbury Mocha
- 50ml double cream
- A pinch of flaked sea salt
- Brew the disc into a small pan.
- Simmer gently for five minutes to reduce it by about a third.
- Stir in 50ml of double cream and a pinch of salt, and take it off the heat.
- Pour warm over sponge pudding, profiteroles or ice cream.
What you'll end up with: A quick mocha sauce with real coffee bitterness in it, which is what most shop-bought chocolate sauces lack.
Bedtime-Adjacent Half Mocha
How to make Bedtime-Adjacent Half Mocha with Tassimo Cadbury Mocha.
- 1 disc Tassimo Cadbury Mocha
- 100ml hot milk
- 1 toasted teacake
- Brew the disc into a large mug.
- Top with 100ml of hot milk to lengthen it and soften the coffee.
- Stir once.
- Serve with a toasted teacake.
What you'll end up with: A longer, milder version for late in the evening, though it is still a caffeinated drink rather than a nightcap.

Sourcing & blend. Tassimo Cadbury Mocha, 10 Pods 160g is made for the Tassimo system by Jacobs Douwe Egberts under licence to the Cadbury name, which is the British chocolate house most households in this country grew up on. The cocoa profile is the reason to buy it: sweet and milky rather than dark and bitter, so the coffee has to stay light to keep the balance. Each disc is sealed under foil and carries the printed barcode the machine reads before it pours.
What's in Tassimo Cadbury Mocha, 10 Pods 160g, and what isn't:
- In: a chocolate-led machine mocha, Cadbury cocoa with a light coffee backbone, sealed as single-serve discs.
- No jar, no kettle, no measuring: the ratio is fixed inside the disc and the machine sets the pour from the barcode.
- Not dairy-free and not vegan: this is a milk chocolate drink.
