In markets where fresh milk is inconvenient, expensive or simply not the habit, a complete coffee in one sachet is the normal way to drink instant, and the format has been refined over decades for exactly that job.
What arrives here is a mature, well-sorted product rather than a novelty. It is also the format most useful in circumstances rather than in kitchens: camping, site work, long drives, hospital bags, festivals, spare rooms and anywhere the alternative is black instant or nothing.

What You Are Actually Buying
- Three things in one: coffee, whitener and sugar. No jar, no milk and no sugar bowl.

Ideal Serving Conditions
There is still one thing worth getting right, and one worth knowing about: the volume of water, and the fact that the sweetness is fixed.
The Proper Mug
- Measure: one sachet to 150 to 180ml. This makes a smaller mug than a latte sachet does, and stretching it to 250ml is what makes people call it weak.
- Water: just off the boil is fine here. Whitener is more heat-tolerant than milk powder, so the cooked note that spoils a latte sachet is much less of a problem.
- Stir properly: unlike a cappuccino sachet, there is no foam to protect, so stir until it is genuinely dissolved.
- Taste before adding anything: the sugar is already in there and a second spoon is usually one too many.
Adjusting It
- Stronger: half a teaspoon of plain instant in the dry mug. The whitener and sugar can carry more coffee than the sachet gives you.
- Less sweet: only by dilution, and the drink thins quickly, so the real answer is to buy black instant and a milk of your own if sugar matters to you.
- Creamier: make it on hot milk instead of water for something much closer to a latte, at which point you no longer need the whitener but you do get a better drink.
Getting It Right in the Cup
- Water temperature: just off the boil is acceptable; around 90 degrees Celsius is still slightly better.
- Measure: 150 to 180ml per sachet. Do not stretch it.
- Method: tip in, pour, stir until fully dissolved.
- Storage: sealed and dry in the carton. Sugar and whitener both cake once they take up moisture.
- Best with: camping, site work, a long drive, a hospital bag, or anywhere the alternative is black instant or nothing.

- Pour 160ml of hot water over it. Resist filling the mug to the brim; this sachet makes a smaller drink than a latte sachet does.
- Stir until it is genuinely dissolved, not just swirled.
What you'll end up with: A white sweet coffee with a short, slightly dry finish. If it tastes thin, you used too much water: this format has no milk solids to hold a big mug together.

- 6 sachets Nescafé Original 3 in 1
- 1 litre hot water
- A warmed vacuum flask
- Warm the flask with a splash of hot water first and pour it away.
- Tip six sachets straight into the flask.
- Fill with a litre of hot water, cap it and invert it twice to mix.
What you'll end up with: Six mugs of white sweet coffee that hold up for hours. Because there are no milk solids in it, it does not go skinny or separate in a flask the way a latte sachet does.
Iced Sweet Coffee
How to make Iced Sweet Coffee with Nescafé Original 3 in 1.
- 1 sachet Nescafé Original 3 in 1
- 60ml hot water
- A glass of ice
- 100ml cold water or milk
- Dissolve the sachet completely in 60ml of hot water.
- Pour over a glass of ice.
- Top up with cold water for a long iced coffee, or cold milk if you want it creamier.
What you'll end up with: A clean iced coffee that is already sweetened. It survives the cold build better than a milk-powder sachet does, because there is less to separate.
Camp Mocha
How to make Camp Mocha with Nescafé Original 3 in 1.
- 1 sachet Nescafé Original 3 in 1
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 160ml hot water
- Combine the sachet and the cocoa in the mug.
- Paste with a splash of hot water, because cocoa clumps readily.
- Top up and stir until smooth.
What you'll end up with: A mocha from two spoonfuls of luggage. The sugar is already in the sachet, so the cocoa keeps some of its bitterness rather than being buried.
