5,000 visitors from Google in 28 days, and our best month yet with five days to go

The Google number

A year ago Google barely knew we existed. In October 2025 Google Search was sending us about four visitors a day. This September it has been sending around 180 a day.

Over the twelve months to 25 September 2026, teas.co.uk appeared in Google results 2.51 million times and earned 16,400 clicks. None of those visitors was bought: Search Console counts only the unpaid results.

Then the email arrived. When a site passes a milestone, Google Search Console sends a small badge, and ours reads: 5K clicks from Google Search in the past 28 days, dated 22 September 2026.

Where Google sends people

Most of those visitors do not arrive on a product page. They arrive on an answer. From 5 to 20 September, about three in every four visitors Google sent us landed in the tea wiki: guides to brewing, caffeine and brands, and the questions people actually type into a search box. Clicks to the wiki were up 23% on the 16 days before.

The rest landed on product pages, brand and category pages, and recipes. That is the shop working the way we built it to: answer the question properly, and some of the people who came for the answer stay to buy the tea.

Our best month yet, with five days to go

September is not over, and it has already beaten every month before it. From 1 to 25 September the shop took 32 website orders worth £858.96. Over the same 25 days of August it took 15 orders worth £307.32. That is sales up 180% and orders up 113%.

In 25 days September has taken almost exactly twice as much as the whole of August. It is 85% ahead of April's £464.32, our previous best month for sales, and its 32 orders are well past May's 20, our previous best for orders. The best day of the month so far was today: four orders on 25 September.

The line is not straight. February and March were quiet, and the summer dipped after a strong May. But the direction is clear, and it has never been clearer than this month.

People coming back

Since the first order on 18 November 2025, 145 customers have placed 161 orders with us. That means 16 of those orders came from people who had bought from us before and came back for more. For a shop that is not yet a year old, the return visits matter as much as the new ones.

What helped

We will not pretend it is all Google. Part of it is the Autumn Sale, 20% off right across the shop from 13 September until 15 November. A sale brings people in, but it also makes each order smaller, so takings up 180% while prices are down 20% says something about how many more people are buying.

The rest is work you mostly cannot see. In September we made the site faster, tidied the search details on every page, went through a full audit of the site page by page, and merged eight duplicate wiki pages into their best versions, so Google stops splitting one answer across two addresses. It is too early to say how much of the growth each change explains. We will report back when the numbers are in, whichever way they go.

Busier than it looks

Google is only part of the traffic. In the 30 days to 25 September the site answered 8,456,724 requests from people, search engines and AI crawlers, and served 178.91 GB of pages and images. For a shop run by one person in Tunbridge Wells, that is a busy month.
