How to Make Black Tea with Lemon

How to make black tea with lemon the Russian way: brewed strong, no milk, brightened with a fresh slice of lemon.

How To Make Black Tea With Lemon

Across Russia and much of Eastern Europe, tea is drunk black with a slice of lemon rather than milk, and it is a habit worth picking up. The lemon brightens the tea and cuts through its tannins, leaving something clean and refreshing rather than heavy. This blend already carries a citrus note, so a fresh wheel on top doubles down on it. Brew it at a full boil for four minutes, then add the lemon at the end, and never with milk.

⏱ 5 min 🍽 Serves 1 📊 Easy 📚 Black Tea Recipes

You'll need

  • 1 tea bag of Rochambeau Lemon Infused Black Tea
  • 250ml freshly drawn water at 100C, just off the boil
  • 1 fresh lemon wheel
  • 1 250ml mug, warmed
  • 1 saucer for covering during steep

Method

  1. Warm your mug with a splash of hot water and pour it away.
  2. Pour in 250ml of water at a rolling boil.
  3. Add the tea bag, cover with a saucer, and steep for four minutes.
  4. Lift the bag out, then drop in a fresh wheel of lemon and give it a gentle press.
  5. Drink it as it is; lemon and milk do not mix, so leave the milk out.
  6. Tip: if you sweeten it, honey suits lemon tea better than sugar.
What you'll end up with: A clean, bright cup of black tea with lemon, refreshing and best drunk without milk.
