Room 08 of 08 · from reading to doing

What machines can do.

Rooms 01 to 07 are about machines that read this shop. Since 4 October 2026 an AI assistant can also shop it for the person it works for: with their go ahead it searches the live catalogue, compares teas, fills the basket and hands over a secure checkout, through the MCP server, a basket link, the UCP buy link for Google and Microsoft style shopping agents, or the WebMCP tools on these pages. The person checks the basket and pays on teas.co.uk, and the assistant never sees their card details.

The tool list on this page is read from the MCP server at this render; nothing here is a stored copy.

Section 01

From reading to doing.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use a website's tools for the person it is helping. teas.co.uk runs its own MCP server. An assistant connected to it can do what a good shop assistant does: look things up, compare, put things in a basket and point you to the till. It cannot pay. The till is teas.co.uk.

Section 02

Every tool, in plain words.

Each row is one tool the server offers. Read only tools change nothing. Tools that change something act only when the person asks, and nothing is ever bought inside an assistant.

Section 04

What the person always keeps.

They pay on teas.co.uk.
Payment never happens inside an assistant. A checkout link opens teas.co.uk, where the person signs in or creates an account and pays as usual.
Baskets only when asked.
An assistant adds to a basket only when the person asks it to. Nothing is bought until the person pays.
Linking is a choice.
Shopping needs no account. Linking a teas.co.uk account is chosen on teas.co.uk and can be ended at any time in My Account, under Connected apps.
No passwords, no card numbers.
The assistant never sees a password or payment details and cannot place an order.
Staff accounts stay out.
Shop staff accounts cannot be linked to an assistant.
Points stay theirs.
An assistant can show reward points and what they unlock, but only the person spends them, on teas.co.uk. A money off or free delivery voucher bought with points then applies at checkout by itself.
Cards they press.
In Claude and other apps that draw MCP Apps cards, products, the basket, checkout, orders, repeat deliveries, reward points and returns appear as cards. Pause, resume and cancel act only when the person presses them, and cancel asks twice.
A careful service record.
The server records each request: the tool, the search words and filters with personal details removed, what came back, timings and the assistant app. Never the chat, a name, an email, a password or payment details. Identifiers are scrambled and removed after 12 months.
Section 05

How we count what machines do.

Tool callOne request from an assistant to one tool on https://teas.co.uk/mcp that the server answered, with a result or an error.
ConnectorAn assistant's saved link to the server. teas.co.uk cannot see connectors, only the requests they send.
Account linkA teas.co.uk customer signed in on teas.co.uk and allowed an assistant to use the account tools. Counted when the server issues the access.
Checkout arrivalA browser opened a checkout link the server made. It shows a link was opened, not who opened it or that anything was bought.
Trace idA random id carried from the tool call to the checkout link and onto the order it leads to, so a sale can be linked to the request that started it. It holds no chat, name or payment detail.
Order originEvery order records where it came from: an assistant through the MCP server or a basket link, a search engine, or a direct visit, from the campaign tag or the basket the server built. The funnel above counts the paid ones.
DoorsEach request is counted by the door it came through: MCP, WebMCP, the AI pages, UCP REST, UCP MCP, NLWeb, A2A or the HTTP APIs.
Instruction guardCatalogue text that reads like an instruction to an assistant is left out of tool answers, and a nightly scan looks for it.
Catalogue checksEvery six hours the catalogue is checked for facts that disagree between pack sizes of the same tea and for thin taste notes, and Product Truth gives each product a readiness score.
Signed in page toolsOn their own signed in pages, a customer's browser assistant can read their orders, tracking, reward points and returns through WebMCP. Read only.

Assistant is the family the server records from each request (user agent and published address ranges), since 5 Oct 2026, 23:15 UTC; calls before that are listed as not recorded. teas.co.uk's own tests are labelled and counted apart. An unverified user agent claim, like every agent name in this study.

Visits are distinct MCP visits (a keyed hash per assistant session; no person is identified) with at least one successful call in the stage. Orders are paid orders marked as coming through the teas.co.uk MCP server or basket link (by campaign tag, or by a basket the server built in the same shop session); not_named means the order matched by basket, not by tag. teas.co.uk's own tests are left out; directory testers (glama, smithery, pulsemcp) and scripts appear under their own names. Read at this render from the MCP service record, cached for an hour. Order values are not shown here.

Window: 4 Oct 2026 to 11 Oct 2026 (completed UTC days); the unfinished current day is never shown. Rule: every answered tool call, from any assistant. Calls before the assistant was recorded include the launch tests run by teas.co.uk, the review scans of OpenAI and Anthropic and directory testers such as Glama: read those as an upper bound on customer use, never as a count of people. The 10 basket errors on 4 Oct 2026 at 14:57 and 14:58 UTC came from teas.co.uk's own fixture script before launch: it ran the basket tools inside one command line process, which the basket store does not allow. No basket call has failed that way since. Live.

Every request to the MCP server, answered or refused, also enters the site's door knock record beside every other machine door, under its own bucket (ai-mcp). It never counts as a served read and never earns a thank you token: acting is a different event from reading.

Section 06

What a tool call proves, and where it stops.

It proves
An assistant asked this server for something on a stated day, and the server answered.
It does not prove
Who the person was, what they asked their assistant, what the assistant said next, or that anything was bought. No messages are stored, by design.
It is not a rung
A tool call is a different kind of event from the four rungs on the overview, so it is counted on its own and never added to them.
