Twinings Jasmine Green Tea, 80 Tea Bags
Jasmine takes up the room where the grassy, mineral part of a plain green would be. That is either the whole appeal or the whole objection, and most people land in the first camp; anyone who came looking for a green tea that tastes of green tea should keep walking. Where it earns its keep is at the table: jasmine holds its shape next to strongly flavoured food in a way a delicate green does not, so it survives a takeaway or anything with chilli in it, where a plain sencha is wiped out. Eighty bags also changes what the tea is for. At twenty you ration it and it stays a Sunday thing; at eighty it becomes the four o'clock default, which is when a light cup is most use. It is green tea leaf, so there is caffeine in it - fine at four, less fine at ten. A scented tea is the box worth keeping properly shut, because the flower is the first thing to leave once air gets at it.
Twinings Jasmine Green Tea, in brief.
Twinings Jasmine Green Tea is the soft, floral green that most people find easier to drink than a plain one, here in the eighty-bag household box, picked into the Teas.co.uk curator selection because the big box halves the running cost.
Brew at 80 degrees rather than boiling and lift the bag out at two minutes, because overheated water is the whole reason green tea gets a reputation for bitterness. Drink it clear.
Twinings Jasmine Green Tea in the eighty-bag box is the household size of a tea most people first buy twenty bags at a time. That distinction matters more than it sounds, because jasmine green is one of the few flavoured teas that people who like it drink every day rather than occasionally, and the small box runs out fast.
Jasmine green is green tea carrying jasmine. The flower is not a decoration on top of the leaf; it is the reason the cup reads soft and floral instead of grassy and sharp, and it is what makes this the gentlest introduction to green tea on the shelf. Green tea without it is an acquired taste for a lot of British drinkers. With it, most people get on with it immediately.

Same tea, same brand, roughly half the price per cup for buying the bigger box, and that is the single strongest argument for this listing existing.
The Story Behind Twinings
Twinings is the family tea house trading from London since 1706, and it is the most widely stocked tea brand in Britain by some distance. Jasmine green sits in the everyday part of its range rather than the specialist part, which is exactly why it works as a household box: it is made to be consistent from box to box rather than to vary interestingly.
That means the net weight of the eighty-bag box, the bag material, the full ingredient declaration, whether the jasmine appears as flowers or as flavouring, the certification marks and the best-before window all have to come off the carton rather than from this page. For reference, the twenty-bag box of the same tea on our shelf is 40g, which is 2g a bag, but we are not going to present the arithmetic on that as a fact about a box we have not weighed.
Packaging: Follow the current UK pack and local-authority guidance; components can require different disposal routes.
What You Are Actually Buying
- Count: eighty bags, which is four times the standard Twinings green tea box and the reason this is a cupboard purchase rather than a trial.
- Temperature: 80°C, not boiling. This is the one thing that separates a soft floral cup from a dry, bitter one, and it is the reason most people think they dislike green tea.
- Drink it clear: no milk. The jasmine and the green base both disappear under it, and there is not enough tannin here for milk to soften anything.
- What it is not: not a plain green tea. If you want the unscented cup, Twinings Pure Green is the box for that and this is not it.

Our commitment to the planet
The taste profile
How does it compare
Green tea has one rule and jasmine green has one and a half. The first is temperature. The second is that jasmine is volatile, so it leaves the cup faster than the tea does, which means a covered brew and a reasonably prompt drink both make a visible difference.
The Standard Mug
The Glass Pot
Made with this tea
The Proper Mug
How to make The Proper Mug with Twinings Jasmine Green Tea.
- 1 bag Twinings Jasmine Green Tea
- 250ml water at about 80°C
- A saucer to cover the mug
- Boil the kettle, then leave it two minutes with the lid off so the water drops to about 80°C.
- Pour 250ml over one bag of Twinings Jasmine Green Tea, 80 Tea Bags.
- Cover the mug with a saucer for the first minute to keep the jasmine in the liquid.
- Lift the bag out at two minutes and drink it clear.
What you'll end up with: A pale yellow-green cup, soft and floral with no dryness in it. If it tastes bitter, the water was too hot, not the tea too strong.
The Glass Pot for Two
How to make The Glass Pot for Two with Twinings Jasmine Green Tea.
- 2 bags Twinings Jasmine Green Tea
- 500ml water at about 80°C
- A glass pot and small glass cups
- Warm the pot with a little hot water and pour it away, so the brew does not lose heat to cold glass.
- Steep 2 bags in 500ml at 80°C for two minutes with the lid on. Two bags, not three.
- Lift both bags out before you pour the first cup rather than leaving them in the pot.
What you'll end up with: Two clear pale cups that stay pleasant to the bottom of the pot. Jasmine green scales down rather than up, so resist adding the third bag.
Cold Brew Jasmine Jug
How to make a Cold Brew Jasmine Jug with Twinings Jasmine Green Tea.
- 4 bags Twinings Jasmine Green Tea
- 1 litre cold water
- Ice to serve
- Drop 4 bags into a litre jug of cold water, cover and refrigerate for six to eight hours.
- Lift the bags out in the morning; leaving them in all day does add bitterness eventually.
- Serve over ice, clear, with nothing added.
What you'll end up with: The most forgiving way to drink this tea. Cold water extracts almost no astringency, so the jasmine and the sweetness come through with nothing sharp behind them.
Jasmine Lemonade
How to make Jasmine Lemonade with Twinings Jasmine Green Tea.
- 3 bags Twinings Jasmine Green Tea
- 300ml water at about 80°C, plus 500ml cold
- The juice of 2 lemons
- 2 tablespoons honey or sugar syrup
- Ice
- Steep 3 bags in 300ml at 80°C for two minutes, then remove the bags and stir in the honey while the tea is still warm.
- Cool, then add the lemon juice and 500ml of cold water.
- Chill and serve over ice with a lemon wheel.
What you'll end up with: Sharper and more interesting than shop lemonade, because the jasmine sits behind the citrus instead of under sugar. Add the lemon cold, never to hot tea.
Jasmine Poached Pears
How to make Jasmine Poached Pears with Twinings Jasmine Green Tea.
- 4 bags Twinings Jasmine Green Tea
- 4 firm pears, peeled
- 100g caster sugar
- A strip of lemon peel
- Steep 4 bags in 700ml of water at 80°C for three minutes, then lift the bags out.
- Dissolve the sugar in the warm tea with the lemon peel.
- Poach the peeled pears in the liquid at a bare simmer for 20 to 25 minutes until a knife slides in.
- Cool the pears in the liquor so they take up the jasmine as they sit.
What you'll end up with: Pale, faintly floral pears that taste of more than sugar syrup. The eighty-bag box is what makes it reasonable to use four bags on a pudding.
Brewing the perfect cup
What’s in it, what to know
Inside the pack
| Ingredient | Proportion | What it brings |
|---|---|---|
| Green tea | See current pack | The base of the cup. Light and clean rather than dominant, which is what gives the jasmine somewhere to sit and keeps the tea easy to drink daily. |
| Jasmine | See current pack | The lead note, and the reason this cup reads soft and floral instead of grassy. Volatile, so it is the first thing to reach the nose and the first thing lost to an uncovered mug. |
Pack: Twinings Jasmine Green Tea, 80 Tea Bags; a caffeinated green tea with jasmine. The net weight and the best-before date are printed on the current UK pack.
Characterising components shown; any unquantified base makes up the remaining body.
Sourcing & blend. Twinings Jasmine Green Tea, 80 Tea Bags is put together by Twinings, the family tea house trading from London since 1706. Jasmine green sits in the everyday part of the Twinings range rather than the specialist part, and that is the point of it: a box bought for consistency cup after cup rather than for variation between harvests.
What's in Twinings Jasmine Green Tea, 80 Tea Bags, and what isn't:
- In: green tea carrying jasmine, in eighty single-serve bags, with nothing in the bag but the listed components.
- No milk: this is a light green tea with very little tannin in it. Milk buries both the jasmine and the base and there is nothing here for it to soften.
