LCurator note · Löfbergs
Wrong coffee for an espresso machine. This is a filter grind: it wants a cafetiere, a drip machine or a patient hand pour, and it will run straight through a pressurised basket. In the right kit the Nordic house style shows up as toasted nut, warm cereal, a soft cocoa weight underneath and almost no sharpness, a cup built to be drunk black all morning rather than admired once.

About this product

Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, in brief.

Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee is the organic everyday filter coffee from the Swedish family roastery, a 250g pack of arabica-only ground coffee with no robusta in the blend, picked into the Teas.co.uk curator selection as the clean, low-acid weekday cafetiere pack rather than a speciality single-estate bag.

A 250g household pack, ground for cafetiere and filter rather than espresso, and best bought in this size so it is drunk while it still smells of something.

Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee is the everyday organic filter coffee from the Swedish family roastery, ground and packed in a 250g pack for people who brew at home rather than push a button on a machine. The front of the pack makes two commitments and the coffee keeps to both: it is organic, and it is arabica only, with no robusta blended in to pad out the body or the caffeine.

That matters more in a ground coffee than it does in a bean. Ground coffee is bought to be used, not admired, and the difference between a pleasant weekday cup and a harsh one is usually the species in the bag rather than the skill of the person making it. Arabica gives you the softer acidity and the sweeter finish; robusta gives you the rubbery edge that people blame on their cafetiere. Löfbergs sells this one as a clean, all-arabica organic pack, and that is exactly how it reads in the cup.

The Story Behind Löfbergs

Löfbergs is a Swedish family coffee roastery, and Sweden drinks more coffee per head than almost anywhere in Europe, which tends to produce roasters who understand the middle of the market rather than only the top of it. The house style is built for repeat drinking: medium roast, low acidity, nothing sharp enough to need a spoonful of sugar to fix it. This organic pack sits in that tradition rather than trying to be a speciality single-estate coffee.

Packaging: Follow the current UK pack and local-authority guidance; components can require different disposal routes.

Our Commitment To The Planet

  • Organic on the front of the pack: the product name itself carries the organic claim, so the certification body and its number are printed on the pack you receive. Read them off the pack rather than taking our word for it.
  • Buy the size you will drink: a 250g pack of ground coffee used within a few weeks of opening wastes far less than a big bag that goes flat in the cupboard.

How does it compare

vs Löfbergs Brazil Single Origin Ground Coffee, 250gThe same roastery and the same pack size, but the Brazil pack narrows to one country and reads heavier and more cocoa-led. The organic pack is the lighter, cleaner, more everyday of the two.
vs Taylors of Harrogate Brasilia Ground Coffee, 200gBoth aim at the same weekday filter slot, but Taylors leans nuttier and sweeter while Löfbergs holds a drier, more Scandinavian finish that suits drinking it black.
vs Costa Coffee Intense Amazonian Blend Ground Coffee, 200gCosta is built to survive milk and to taste like the high street. Löfbergs is built to be drunk without milk, so it rewards a cafetiere and punishes a rushed, over-hot pour in a way Costa does not.

To get the best out of Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica, treat it as a filter and cafetiere coffee. It is ground for immersion and drip brewing; it is too coarse to behave in a domestic espresso machine and will simply run through.

Ideal brewing conditions · Hot

The Cafetiere Standard

01
DoseTwo rounded tablespoons, roughly 15g, per 250ml of water.
02
WaterBoil, then wait thirty to forty seconds. Water straight off a rolling boil scalds the grounds and pushes the bitterness up.
03
BrewFour minutes, lid on, plunger up. Break the crust at four minutes, skim the foam, then plunge slowly.
04
ServeDecant straight away. Coffee left sitting on its own grounds keeps extracting and turns dull and grippy within ten minutes.
Ideal brewing conditions · Hot

The Filter Machine Build

01
DoseAround 60g per litre in the basket, which is a heaped scoop per two mugs.
02
BedLevel the grounds flat before you start. A sloped bed is the usual reason one filter jug tastes thin and the next tastes strong.
03
HoldMove the jug off the hotplate as soon as it finishes. Twenty minutes on a warming plate is what makes filter coffee taste stewed.
04
ResultA clean, nut-led mug that takes a splash of milk without collapsing into nothing.

The Weekday Cafetiere Mug

How to make The Weekday Cafetiere Mug with Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica.

5 min 1 mug Easy
You'll need
  • 15g Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica
  • 250ml water, boiled and rested 30 seconds
  • A timer
  • A spoon for the crust
Method
  1. Warm the cafetiere with a splash of hot water and tip it out, then add 15g of Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g.
  2. Pour 250ml of boiled water rested for 30 seconds over the grounds and start the timer.
  3. Break the crust at four minutes, skim the foam off the top and plunge slowly.
  4. Decant the whole lot straight away so it stops extracting.

What you'll end up with: A clean nut-and-cocoa mug with a dry finish, and no sludge in the last mouthful.

Filter Jug for Four

How to make Filter Jug for Four with Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica.

8 min 4 cups Easy
You'll need
  • 36g Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica
  • 600ml fresh cold water
  • A paper filter
  • A jug or flask
Method
  1. Rinse the paper filter with hot water first and throw that water away, which takes the cardboard taste out.
  2. Level 36g of Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g flat in the basket and fill the machine with 600ml of fresh cold water.
  3. Move the jug off the hotplate the moment it finishes brewing.
  4. Pour into a warmed flask if it is not being drunk within ten minutes.

What you'll end up with: Four even cups instead of one strong and three thin, which is what a sloped coffee bed gives you.

Double Strength Iced Coffee

How to make Double Strength Iced Coffee with Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica.

6 min + chill 1 glass Easy
You'll need
  • 20g Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica
  • 200ml just boiled water, rested
  • A full glass of ice
  • A splash of milk, optional
Method
  1. Brew 20g of Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g in only 200ml of water for four minutes, so it comes out at roughly double strength.
  2. Fill a tall glass to the top with ice, not half way.
  3. Pour the hot coffee straight over the ice so it chills instantly rather than sitting warm.
  4. Top with a splash of cold milk if you want it softer.

What you'll end up with: Iced coffee that still tastes of coffee once the ice has done its work, rather than brown water.

Overnight Cold Brew Concentrate

How to make Overnight Cold Brew Concentrate with Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica.

12 hrs 4 glasses Easy
You'll need
  • 80g Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica
  • 500ml cold water
  • A lidded jar
  • A paper filter or fine sieve
Method
  1. Stir 80g of Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g into 500ml of cold water in a jar until every grain is wet.
  2. Leave it in the fridge for twelve hours, or on the counter for eight if the kitchen is cool.
  3. Strain through a paper filter, slowly, and do not squeeze the grounds.
  4. Dilute one part concentrate to two parts water or milk over ice.

What you'll end up with: Four days of iced coffee in the fridge, sweeter and rounder than the hot version because cold water never pulls the bitter compounds.

The Fika Pot

How to make The Fika Pot with Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica.

10 min 2 cups Easy
You'll need
  • 16g Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica
  • 400ml water at about 94 degrees
  • Cinnamon buns or almond biscuits
  • Two small cups, not mugs
Method
  1. Brew 16g of Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g in 400ml of water for four minutes, deliberately lighter than a mug build.
  2. Pour into two small cups rather than one large one.
  3. Serve with something baked and sit down with it, which is the whole point of fika.
  4. Refill once. A second small cup is traditional and this roast is light enough to take it.

What you'll end up with: A lighter cup built for a second helping, which is how Swedes drink the most coffee in Europe without ruining their evening.

Coffee and Cocoa Nightcap Mug

How to make Coffee and Cocoa Nightcap Mug with Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica.

7 min 1 mug Easy
You'll need
  • 12g Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 50ml hot milk or oat milk
  • Honey to taste, optional
Method
  1. Stir 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder into the dry grounds before any water goes near them, which stops it clumping.
  2. Brew 12g of Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g in 200ml of water for four minutes.
  3. Top with 50ml of hot milk or oat milk and sweeten only if you need to.
  4. Remember this is caffeinated coffee, so keep it for early evening rather than bedtime.

What you'll end up with: The cocoa note in the roast doubled up rather than covered up, without turning the mug into a milkshake.

Brewing

Brewing the perfect cup

Water temperature94°C, which is a boiled kettle rested for about half a minute.
Measure7g per small cup, 12 to 15g per mug. A kitchen scale is worth more here than any gadget.
BrewFour minutes in a cafetiere, three to four in a filter machine.
ServiceBlack is where this one is happiest. A splash of milk is fine; a milky mug buries the nut and cocoa entirely.
Iced versionBrew at double strength, cool, then pour over a full glass of ice. Do not brew it weak and chill it, or it tastes watery.
Best withCinnamon buns, almond biscuits, dark chocolate, or on its own mid-morning.

What’s in it, what to know

Ingredients and dietary suitabilityCheck the current UK pack before purchase; formulations and allergen advice can change.
Clean labelRoasted ground coffee is the single ingredient. Nothing is added to this pack for flavour, sweetness or shelf life.
StorageReseal the pack or decant into an airtight tin, keep it away from the hob and out of the fridge, and use it within a few weeks of opening. Ground coffee loses aroma far faster than beans do.
Formulations change; the current UK pack is always the final word on ingredients and allergens.

Inside the pack

IngredientProportionWhat it brings
Organic arabica coffee, roasted and ground100%The whole of the cup. Arabica carries the toasted nut and cocoa character and the softer acidity that lets this be drunk black.
Robusta or other coffee species0%Deliberately absent. Robusta adds cheap body and a rubbery bitterness; leaving it out is the point of a 100% arabica pack.
Added flavourings, sugar or preservativesnoneNothing is added. What is in the pack is coffee, which is why the storage advice matters more here than any ingredient list.

Pack: Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g; caffeinated ground coffee for cafetiere and filter. Best used within a few weeks of opening; the printed best-before date is on the pack.

Characterising components shown.

Sourcing & blend. Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g is put together by Löfbergs, the Swedish family coffee roastery, in the Nordic everyday style: a medium roast built for repeat drinking rather than for a tasting flight. The pack claims organic and arabica-only, and both claims are printed on the front of the pack where a certifying body and code must appear alongside them.

What's in Löfbergs Organic 100% Arabica Ground Coffee, 250g, and what isn't:

  • In: roasted, ground organic arabica coffee and nothing else.
  • No artificial colours, preservatives or added sugar: any sweetness in the cup comes from the roast itself.
  • No robusta: the pack states 100% arabica, which is the single biggest reason this one drinks softer than a supermarket value blend.
Product questions

Asked about this product

It is a medium roast organic ground coffee made only from arabica, packed in a 250g pack by the Swedish family roastery Löfbergs. The style is the Scandinavian everyday one: rounded, low in acidity and dry on the finish, built for cafetiere and filter rather than for espresso.
