A Cherry Bakewell Cup of Yorkshire Tea

A cake in a mug black tea that tastes of cherry Bakewell, with jammy cherry and marzipan almond. Full boil, three to four minutes.

A Cherry Bakewell Cup Of Yorkshire Tea

This one really does taste like a cherry Bakewell tart: jammy cherry and a marzipan almond note sitting on a robust black tea base. It is a bit of fun for the afternoon that still drinks like proper tea, not a sickly flavoured water.

Because there is real tea underneath, give it a full boil and a normal steep. Try the first cup black to catch the cherry and almond, then add milk if you want a softer, cake and custard version.

You'll need

Method

  1. Boil fresh water and pour it over the bag at a full 100C. It is black tea, so it wants the heat.
  2. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes to draw out the flavour.
  3. Lift out the bag. Try it black first to taste it properly.
  4. Add a splash of milk for a softer, cake and custard cup, or a little honey to play up the sweetness.
  5. A drop of almond extract or a splash of cherry juice lifts it even further.
What you'll end up with: A warm, comforting mug that tastes like a cherry Bakewell, jam and almond over a proper tea base.
