Brewing Yorkshire Tea Hard Water (for Limescale Areas)

The Yorkshire blend made for hard water areas, so your cup stays bright and flavoured instead of flat and lifeless. Hard boil, four to five minutes.

Brewing Yorkshire Tea Hard Water (For Limescale Areas)

Taylors of Harrogate blend this one specifically for limescale heavy areas. There, ordinary tea can taste dull and throw up a grey film on top, while this blend is built to brew clear and keep its flavour where others struggle.

Make it like any good Yorkshire cup: water at a hard boil, four to five minutes in the mug, then a splash of milk.

You'll need

  • 1 tea bag of Yorkshire Tea Hard Water
  • 200ml freshly boiled water (100C)
  • A splash of milk
  • Sugar to taste (optional)

Method

  1. Boil fresh water and pour it over the bag at a full 100C.
  2. Steep for 4 to 5 minutes. This blend holds its strength where the water is hard, while ordinary tea often goes flat and skins over.
  3. Press the bag against the side of the mug, then lift it out.
  4. Add a splash of milk; the brew should look bright, not greyish on top.
  5. Descale your kettle now and then, as loose limescale flecks can take the edge off even this blend.
What you'll end up with: A clear, well flavoured builder's cup that stands up where the water is hard and a standard brew would taste thin.
