Ginger Apple Crumble Filling (Twinings Bioblends)
Apples stewed in strong lemon, ginger and turmeric tea for a gently spiced crumble filling, or to spoon over ice cream.

This stews apples in a strong brew of Twinings Bioblends Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric, so the fruit takes on a gentle ginger warmth and a citrus edge before it ever meets the crumble. Bake it under a crumble topping, or just spoon the soft ginger apples over ice cream.

Fills one medium crumble dish. Brew strong, stew the apples, then bake or serve as they are.
You'll need
- 3 tea bags of Twinings Bioblends Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric
- 200ml freshly boiled water (100C)
- 6 cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 3 tablespoons honey or caster sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- Juice of half a lemon
Method
- Brew strong: steep the 3 bags in the boiled water for 6 minutes, then lift them out.
- Pour the tea into a wide pan, add the honey or sugar, ground ginger and lemon juice, and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Add the apple slices and stew gently for 8 to 10 minutes, until just soft but still holding their shape.
- Spoon into a baking dish, top with your favourite crumble mix and bake at 180C fan for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Or skip the crumble and spoon the warm ginger apples straight over ice cream or yoghurt.
- Use Bramley apples for a tart, fluffy filling, or eating apples to keep the slices whole.
