The Starbucks at-home range is made under licence by Nestle, which is why a Starbucks name sits on a Nescafe Dolce Gusto box. The arrangement gives Starbucks a route into kitchens it does not have shops near, and gives the Dolce Gusto system a set of recognisable coffee-shop drinks rather than generic ones. White mocha is one of the sweeter entries in that line-up and sits closest to a dessert.

What You Are Actually Buying
- Count: twelve capsules making six drinks. Two capsules per serving, so the box empties twice as fast as the capsule count suggests.
- Machine required: Nescafe Dolce Gusto only. These capsules do not fit a Nespresso machine or a Tassimo machine, and no adapter makes them.
- Milk included: the milk is inside the white mocha capsule in powder form, so the box needs no fridge and no milk frother. That also means this is not a dairy-free drink.

Ideal Serving Conditions
A pod machine removes most of the ways a coffee can go wrong, which leaves a short list of things still worth getting right. Order of capsules, volume on the slider and the state of the machine itself account for almost every disappointing cup.
The Proper Cup

- Make it stronger: pull the coffee capsule slightly short of its mark for a denser shot under the same amount of milk. This is the fix if the drink tastes too sweet.
- Make it a flat white: use a milk capsule from a plainer Dolce Gusto drink with this coffee capsule if you have both, and keep the white mocha capsules for when you want the chocolate.
- Make it iced: brew both capsules short into a jug, stir, then pour over a full glass of ice. Brewing directly onto ice dilutes the drink as it lands.
- Make it two: six drinks from twelve capsules is the honest count. If you are buying for a household of two, one box is three rounds.
