McVitie's Club Orange Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 Bars 154g
Mint and orange get shelved together as though they did the same job, and they do not. Mint cuts across a heavy coating and makes the bar read lighter. Orange goes into the weight and brightens it without taking any of it away. Which of those you actually want is the whole decision here, and if the plain Club has ever struck you as flat by mid-afternoon, this is the one rather than the mint. Serve it at room temperature, because citrus aromatics need a little warmth to reach you at all and a bar out of a cold cupboard gives up half of what it has. The cup beside it wants to be strong, black and unsweetened, since tannin is the only thing that clears a coating this heavy. Do not dunk it. Wheat and milk chocolate, and the allergen advice belongs to the current pack.
McVitie's Club Orange Biscuit Bars Multipack, in brief.
McVitie's Club Orange is the orange member of the Club range: seven individually wrapped bars of 22g, 154g to the box, each one a biscuit sealed inside a covering heavy enough that the chocolate does all the talking. Picked into the Teas.co.uk selection as the wrapped bar that suits a strong cup rather than a gentle one.
Orange lifts a heavy coating rather than lightening it, so brew stronger than you would for a plain biscuit and leave the sugar out. Do not dunk it: the flavour is on the outside and it ends up in the mug.
McVitie's Club Orange is a multipack of seven individually wrapped bars, twenty-two grams each, one hundred and fifty-four grams of biscuit to the box.
The Club has always been built the opposite way round from most chocolate biscuits. A digestive is a biscuit with chocolate on one face. A Club is a biscuit sealed inside a covering thick enough that the biscuit reads as structure rather than as flavour, and everything you taste happens in the chocolate. Putting orange into that arrangement does something quite specific, and it is not the same thing mint does. Mint cuts across heavy chocolate and makes it read lighter. Orange sits inside it and makes it read brighter, without taking any of the weight away. If you have ever found the plain version a little flat in the middle of the afternoon, this is the one that fixes it.

The Story Behind The Pack
McVitie's is one of the best-known names in British biscuit baking, and Club is among its longest-running lines: a wrapped bar sold in multipacks, built around the amount of chocolate on it rather than around the biscuit inside. That is brand heritage, not a claim about where this particular box was made or what is in it.
The individual wrapper is the part of the design that earns its keep. A coated bar is the most fragile thing in a biscuit cupboard: the coating is on the outside, so it is the first thing that scuffs, warms, blooms or picks up the smell of whatever else is in the tin. Sealing each bar on its own means the seventh bar in the box is in the same condition as the first, three weeks later, which is not true of a sleeve of anything. It is also why a Club survives a school bag or a glovebox better than a plain biscuit does, and why the pack is seven separate occasions rather than one hundred and fifty-four grams to be got through.
Packaging: Follow the current UK pack and local-authority guidance; components can require different disposal routes.
Our Commitment To The Planet
- The box that arrives is the current UK retail pack rather than an import made to a different recipe for another market.
- Individual wrapping adds material, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. What it buys is waste avoided at the other end: a wrapped bar does not go stale, bloom or break before you get to it, so seven bars bought is seven bars eaten.

The taste profile
How does it compare
A heavily coated sweet bar is one of the harder things to pair well, because the coating stays in the mouth and a sweet drink has nothing to push against it. The cup beside this one has a job to do: it needs to be hot enough to clear the coating and dry enough not to add to it. That rules out sugar and it rules out anything milky and sweet.
The Everyday Mug
The Coffee Route
Made with this tea
The Strong Mug
How to make The Strong Mug with McVitie's Club Orange.
- 1 bag strong black tea
- 200ml water at a full boil
- 1 Club Orange bar
- A splash of milk, optional
- Brew one bag in 200ml straight off the boil for four minutes. Stronger than you would for a plain biscuit.
- Leave the sugar out. The bar has supplied all of it and a sweet cup has nothing to push against.
- Unwrap and eat the bar whole, in the hand, with the mug hot.
- Do not dunk it. The flavour is on the outside and it ends up in the mug.
The Mid Morning Coffee
How to make The Mid Morning Coffee with McVitie's Club Orange.
- 1 black filter coffee or espresso
- 1 Club Orange bar
- Room temperature, not fridge cold
- Pull a short espresso or pour an unsweetened black filter coffee.
- Warm the bar in the hand for a minute first if it has come out of a cold cupboard.
- Bite and notice the orange arriving after the cocoa rather than with it, as the coating softens.
- Skip milk and sugar. Roast bitterness is doing the same job tannin does in the tea version.
What you'll end up with: The sharpest the orange gets, and the closest this bar comes to tasting deliberate.
The Room Temperature Test
How to make The Room Temperature Test with McVitie's Club Orange.
- 2 Club Orange bars
- 1 straight from the fridge
- 1 left out for ten minutes
- Chill one bar for an hour and leave the other in a warm room.
- Smell both unwrapped. The cold one gives almost nothing; the warm one gives orange before you bite.
- Eat the cold one first and the warm one second, so the difference is unmistakable.
- Store accordingly. The fridge is only worth it in a genuine heatwave.
What you'll end up with: A clear demonstration of why citrus character needs warmth to reach you, using two bars and ten minutes.
Chocolate Orange Refrigerator Cake
How to make Chocolate Orange Refrigerator Cake with McVitie's Club Orange.
- 4 Club Orange bars, chopped
- 150g plain biscuits, broken
- 80g butter
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- A 20cm tin, lined
- Chop the bars into rough chunks rather than crushing them; they hold their shape and stay visible in the slice.
- Melt the butter and syrup together over a low heat and take it off before it catches.
- Stir in the broken biscuits and the chopped bars, working quickly so the chunks do not disappear.
- Press into the lined tin and chill for at least three hours before cutting into small squares.
What you'll end up with: A traybake where the orange survives properly, because it is carried in the coating rather than in a juice.
The Lunchbox Pack
How to make The Lunchbox Pack with McVitie's Club Orange.
- 1 box of 7 bars
- A rigid lunchbox
- A cool dry cupboard for the rest
- Pack one wrapped bar a day rather than decanting the box into a tin; the wrapper is the reason this format travels.
- Keep it out of a hot bag. A softened covering marks the wrapper and can set with a pale film as it cools.
- Store the remaining bars cool, dry and away from anything strongly scented.
- Expect the seventh bar to be as good as the first, which is what you are paying the wrapping for.

Ingredient and nutrition data for this barcode: Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), ODbL. The pack in your hands is the final word.
| Ingredient | Proportion | What it brings |
|---|---|---|
| Chocolate covering | the whole exterior | The lead, the middle and the finish. On a Club the covering is heavy enough that the biscuit inside reads as structure, so this is where the sweetness, the body and the orange all live. |
| Orange flavour | carried in the coating | Bright rather than sharp, and released by warmth: it lifts off the surface as the coating softens at mouth temperature. This is why a fridge-cold bar tastes noticeably duller than a room-temperature one. |
| Wheat biscuit | the core | Structure and a quiet snap. It keeps the bar rigid enough to wrap and carry, and it deliberately stays out of the way of the covering. |
| Pack weight | 7 x 22g | 154g to the box, worked out from the bar weight and bar count in the published pack listing. |
Pack: McVitie's Club Orange Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 x 22g; a cardboard multipack of seven individually wrapped coated biscuit bars. Best before the date printed on the pack.
Sourcing & blend. McVitie's Club Orange Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 x 22g is made by McVitie's, one of the best-known names in British biscuit baking, and Club is among its longest-running lines: a wrapped bar built around the amount of chocolate on it rather than around the biscuit inside. That is brand heritage rather than a claim about where this box was made or what is in it. The pack you receive is the current UK retail pack rather than an import made to a different recipe for another market. The reading of the covering as the dominant component, and of orange as lifting rather than lightening it, is our own editorial assessment against the current pack format and the brand's published description.
What is in McVitie's Club Orange Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 x 22g, and what is not:
- In: seven individually wrapped coated biscuit bars of 22g each, 154g to the box, with an orange flavour carried in the covering.
- Not a topped biscuit: this is a bar sealed inside its coating rather than a biscuit with chocolate on one face, which is an editorial description of the format rather than a claim off the pack.
- Not a dunker: the flavour sits on the outside, so hot liquid takes it off the bar and into the mug. We would rather say that plainly than let the pairing advice imply otherwise.
