Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip, 200g
Dough and chip come from the same flavour family here. That is what sets this sleeve apart from the rest of the Maryland shelf: butter, sugar, vanilla and milk, with the chips piling on more of what the cookie already tastes of instead of bringing a second note, so nothing in the bite ever changes direction. It goes down easily for exactly that reason, and a mild cup leaves the mouthful nowhere to land. Brew it strong and keep the sugar out. There is wheat in it and white chocolate is a dairy ingredient, so the panel on the pack you are holding is the one that counts.
Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip, in brief.
Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip is a 200g sleeve of thin, crisp cookies with white chocolate chips, best with a strong unsweetened cup rather than a gentle one.
White chocolate carries no cocoa solids, and cocoa solids are where chocolate bitterness comes from. Remove them and nothing in the biscuit holds the sugar down, which is why this reads sweeter than the plain sleeve on the same bake. Brew strong, leave the sugar out, and dunk for two seconds.
White chocolate contains no cocoa solids. It is cocoa butter, sugar and milk solids, and cocoa solids are where chocolate bitterness comes from. Take them out and you remove the only component in a chocolate chip cookie that was holding the sweetness in check. The same crisp Maryland bake that reads as moderate with dark chips through it reads as properly sweet with white ones, even before anyone changes the recipe. That is not a fault. It is a different biscuit, and it wants a different cup beside it.

The Story Behind The Pack
Maryland built its name on making the American chocolate chip cookie work on a British shelf, and the compromise that required is visible in every biscuit in the range. A bakery cookie is thick, soft and eaten within a day or two. A packet cookie has to survive weeks of distribution and still be worth opening, which pushes the recipe thinner and crisper. That is why these snap rather than bend, and why they behave like a biscuit at a British tea break rather than like a cookie with a glass of milk.
The white chip variant is the one that divides a room. People who like it like it a great deal, and people who do not usually describe it as too much rather than as bad, which is precisely what the missing bitterness predicts. It is also the version most likely to be eaten by children and least likely to be reached for alongside a delicate cup, and both of those follow from the same property.
What we will not tell you is how many cookies are in the sleeve, because that figure is not published at product level, and we would rather state nothing than estimate. The ingredient panel, the nutrition table and the allergen statement are on the current UK pack in the same way.

Our Commitment To The Planet
- The pack that arrives is the current UK retail pack rather than an import made to a different recipe for another market.
- A crisp cookie starts losing its texture the moment air reaches it, and a soft Maryland has lost the snap that made it worth buying. Buying the sleeve you will actually finish wastes less than buying a larger pack and abandoning the soft half.

The taste profile
How does it compare
There is one rule here and everything else follows from it: the cup has to supply the bitterness that the biscuit does not have. Brew strong, brew it properly, and do not put sugar in it.
The Strong Unsweetened Mug
The Berry Plate
Made with this tea
The Strong Unsweetened Mug
How to make The Strong Unsweetened Mug with Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip.
- 2 white chocolate chip cookies
- 1 bag heavy Assam
- 200ml water at a full boil
- A splash of milk
- Steep four full minutes. Tannin is the only thing pulling against the biscuit.
- Leave the sugar out entirely. This is the biscuit where a sweet cup does the most damage.
- Add a splash of milk, not a flood; milk softens the tannin doing the work.
- Dunk two seconds. The chips drop before the base does.
What you'll end up with: A cup supplying the bitterness the biscuit does not have.
The Berry Plate
How to make The Berry Plate with Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip.
- 4 cookies
- A handful of tart raspberries
- Strong black tea, unsweetened
- Plate the cookies with the berries rather than with more cookies.
- Alternate a berry and a bite. Acidity resets the palate as well as bitterness does.
- Notice that the second cookie now tastes like the first, which is otherwise not quite true.
What you'll end up with: The simplest fix for a biscuit with no bitterness in it.
A Pale Cheesecake Base
How to make A Pale Cheesecake Base with Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip.
- About half the sleeve, crushed
- 70g melted butter
- A 20cm tin
- Crush to a fine crumb. White chips go soft rather than shattering, so work them in rather than picking them out.
- Stir in the butter and press firmly into the tin.
- Pull the sugar right back in the filling, and reach for a sharp one: lemon or passionfruit rather than vanilla.
- Chill an hour before filling.
What you'll end up with: A pale base with no dark flecks, under a filling sharp enough to earn it.
A Tasting Against Its Siblings
How to make A Tasting Against Its Siblings with Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip.
- 1 white chip cookie
- 1 plain chocolate chip cookie
- 1 pot of strong unsweetened tea
- Eat the plain one first and pay attention to when the taste stops.
- Eat the white one second and notice that it does not stop in the same way.
- Conclude what the missing cocoa solids were doing, which was clearing the palate.
What you'll end up with: A clear answer to which of the sleeves belongs in your cupboard.

| Ingredient | Proportion | What it brings |
|---|---|---|
| White chocolate chips | through the dough | Cocoa butter, sugar and milk solids, with no cocoa solids at all. They read as vanilla and milk rather than as chocolate, and they bring no bitterness whatsoever to balance the sugar. |
| Baked cookie base | the body | Golden and faintly caramelised from the bake, thin and crisp so it snaps rather than crumbles. It is doing more of the flavour work here than in the darker versions. |
| Pack weight | 200g | A single sealed sleeve. |
Pack: Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip, 200g; a single sleeve of crisp cookies with white chips through them. Best before the date printed on the pack, and best resealed the moment the sleeve is opened.
Sourcing & blend. Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip, 200g is the white-chip member of a range built on making the American chocolate chip cookie work on a British shelf. A bakery cookie is thick, soft and eaten within a day or two; a packet cookie has to survive weeks of distribution and still be worth opening, which pushes the recipe thinner and crisper. What makes this version different from its siblings is not the bake but the chip. White chocolate carries no cocoa solids, and cocoa solids are where chocolate bitterness comes from, so nothing in this biscuit is holding the sugar down. The same bake that reads as moderate with dark chips reads as properly sweet with white ones, which is why it divides opinion and why the people who dislike it tend to say too much rather than bad. The pack you receive is the current UK retail pack rather than an import made to a different recipe.
What is in Maryland Cookies White Chocolate Chip, 200g, and what is not:
- In: crisp baked cookies with white chocolate chips through the dough, in a single sealed 200g sleeve.
- No cocoa solids in the chips: that is what white chocolate is, and it is the whole reason this version reads sweeter than the plain one.
- Not soft-baked: this is the crisp British reading of the format, which is an editorial description of the bake rather than a claim off the pack.
