Kenco Original Cappuccino Instant Coffee, 8 Pack 118.4g
Original on a Kenco box simply means unflavoured. It contains milk, which rules it out of a dairy-free kitchen before anything else is considered, and a plain cappuccino sachet is dosed for a cup rather than a pint. Nearly every complaint that it tastes weak turns out to be a mug problem rather than a powder problem: fill a full-size mug and the whole drink is diluted, because there is no second sachet coming to rescue it. Keep the water down and it lands where it should, mild and milky with the roast just about present.
Kenco Original Cappuccino Instant Coffee, in brief.
Kenco Original Cappuccino is the standard-recipe milky instant cappuccino in single-serve sachets, picked into the Teas.co.uk curator selection as the mug for anywhere there is a kettle and nothing else: an office drawer, a hotel room, a caravan or a spare room.
Eight sachets of 14.8g, 118.4g in the carton, one mug each, milk powder already in the sachet so no fridge is needed. Worth knowing when you compare listings: some of them show this box as a fourteen pack, which is the 14.8g sachet weight read as a count. It is eight. Kenco also make an unsweetened version if you would rather set the sugar yourself. Being a milk drink, it is not dairy-free.
Kenco Original Cappuccino is the standard-recipe cappuccino sachet: coffee and milk powder in one envelope, made up with hot water, with a head on it if you pour it properly. It is the version sold alongside Kenco's unsweetened variant, so if you want the sugar left out entirely that is the box to look for. This one is the everyday, familiar cup.
Eight sachets of 14.8g, which comes to 118.4g in the carton and eight mugs from the box.

The Story Behind Kenco
Kenco is a long-standing British coffee name and the single-serve milk sachet is one of the formats it is best known for. The cappuccino sachet exists to solve a specific, unglamorous problem: a milky coffee where there is a kettle and nothing else. Offices, hotel rooms, caravans, hospital bags, site cabins and spare rooms all have hot water and no fridge, and a jar of instant plus a carton of milk does not travel.
The design work is in the milk powder. Getting it to foam from a pour rather than from a machine, and to do so without tasting chalky, is the difference between a sachet that is worth keeping in a drawer and one that gets thrown away after the first mug.
Packaging: Follow the current UK pack and local-authority guidance; components can require different disposal routes.
What You Are Actually Buying
- Count: eight single-serve sachets of 14.8g each, one mug per sachet, so eight cappuccinos from the box.
- Pack weight: 118.4g in total. Be careful when comparing listings: some of them show this box as a "14 pack", which is the 14.8g sachet weight read as a count. It is eight sachets, and the published product name says so.
- Milk included: the milk component is in the sachet in powder form, which is why the box needs no fridge and travels flat. That also means it is not suitable for a dairy-free diet.
- The sweetened one: this is the original recipe rather than the unsweetened variant Kenco also make. If you want to control the sugar yourself, buy the unsweetened box instead; you cannot take sugar back out of this one.
- What it is not: not a barista cappuccino, not a decaf and not a flavoured latte. It is an everyday milky instant coffee.
Ideal Serving Conditions
Instant cappuccino has a poor reputation mostly because of how it gets made. Two habits ruin it: water at a rolling boil, which gives milk powder a cooked, faintly tinny taste, and stirring the finished mug, which destroys the foam that just took the trouble to form. Neither takes any effort to fix.
The Proper Mug
- Measure: one sachet to 180 to 200ml. Beyond 200ml the milk thins out and the foam collapses.
- Water: let the kettle stand for a minute after it clicks, so you are pouring at around 90 degrees Celsius.
- Pour: sachet into a dry mug first, then the water in from a height and fairly fast. The drop is what creates the foam.
- Do not stir: or stir once, briefly, from the bottom. Every extra stir is foam knocked flat.
Adjusting It
- Stronger: half a teaspoon of plain instant stirred into the dry powder lifts the coffee without adding sweetness.
- Richer: made on hot milk instead of water it becomes a heavier, quieter drink, closer to a flat white in weight than a cappuccino.
- Mocha: a teaspoon of cocoa in the dry mug turns it into a mocha, and the existing sweetness carries it without needing sugar.
Getting It Right in the Cup
- Water temperature: around 90 degrees Celsius, not straight off the boil.
- Measure: one sachet per 180 to 200ml mug, and use a mug rather than a large cup.
- Method: powder in a dry mug, water poured from a height, minimal stirring.
- Storage: keep the sachets dry and sealed in their box. A split sachet in a damp cupboard sets solid.
- Travelling: the format's real advantage. No jar, no milk, no fridge, eight mugs flat in a bag.
- Best with: a biscuit, a mid-morning break, a hotel kettle, or any occasion where a black instant would be bleak.

The taste profile
How does it compare
Kenco Original Cappuccino Instant Coffee, 8 Sachets 118.4g is a finished drink out of the sachet, but the milk-and-coffee base takes additions well. Five builds below cover the proper mug, a stronger version, a mocha, one made on hot milk and a cold one for summer.
Made with this tea
The Proper Cappuccino Mug
How to make The Proper Cappuccino Mug with Kenco Original Cappuccino.
- 1 sachet Kenco Original Cappuccino
- 180ml water at about 90 degrees Celsius
- Boil the kettle and let it stand for a minute, so you are not pouring at a rolling boil.
- Empty the sachet into a dry mug. A wet mug makes the powder clump before the water arrives.
- Pour the water in from a height and fairly fast; the drop builds the foam.
- Leave it alone. One brief stir from the bottom if you must, then stop.
What you'll end up with: A milky cappuccino with a real head on it. If it looks flat, you either poured too gently or stirred it.
The Stronger Mug
How to make The Stronger Mug with Kenco Original Cappuccino.
- 1 sachet Kenco Original Cappuccino
- Half a teaspoon of plain instant coffee
- 180ml water at about 90 degrees Celsius
- Tip the sachet into a dry mug and add the plain instant on top.
- Pour the water in from a height as usual.
- Taste before deciding whether to make it a full teaspoon next time.
What you'll end up with: The same drink with the coffee brought forward and no extra sweetness. The sugar already in the sachet stops the added bitterness reading as harsh.
Kettle Mocha
How to make Kettle Mocha with Kenco Original Cappuccino.
- 1 sachet Kenco Original Cappuccino
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 180ml water at about 90 degrees Celsius
- Combine the sachet and the cocoa in a dry mug.
- Paste them with a splash of hot water, because cocoa clumps worse than milk powder does.
- Top up from a height and stir once.
What you'll end up with: A mocha for the cost of a teaspoon of cocoa. The sweetness already in the sachet carries the chocolate, so no extra sugar is needed.
Made on Hot Milk
How to make Made on Hot Milk with Kenco Original Cappuccino.
- 1 sachet Kenco Original Cappuccino
- 200ml whole milk
- Heat the milk until steaming, not boiling.
- Paste the sachet with two tablespoons of the hot milk in the mug.
- Pour the rest in and stir through.
What you'll end up with: A heavier, quieter drink, nearer a flat white in weight than a cappuccino. You lose the foam and gain body, which suits the evening better than the morning.
Cold Cappuccino Over Ice
How to make Cold Cappuccino Over Ice with Kenco Original Cappuccino.
- 1 sachet Kenco Original Cappuccino
- 60ml hot water
- A glass of ice
- 120ml cold milk
- Dissolve the sachet completely in 60ml of hot water. This sachet is not built for cold liquid, so the hot step is essential rather than optional.
- Cool it for two minutes while you fill a glass with ice and milk.
- Pour the concentrate down the inside of the glass and stir once.
What you'll end up with: A workable iced milk coffee. Cold blunts sweetness, so it reads more balanced than the hot mug, though the foam is gone.

Sourcing & blend. Kenco Original Cappuccino Instant Coffee, 8 Sachets 118.4g is made by Kenco, a long-standing British coffee name and one of the brands that built the single-serve milk sachet into a category of its own. The interesting engineering is in the milk powder rather than the coffee: making it foam from the drop of a poured kettle, without a machine and without tasting chalky, is what separates a sachet worth keeping in a drawer from one that gets thrown away after a single mug. The drink exists for places with a kettle and nothing else, and it is judged best on whether it still tastes acceptable on the second mug of the day.
What's in Kenco Original Cappuccino Instant Coffee, 8 Sachets 118.4g, and what isn't:
- In: instant coffee with a milk component in powder form and sugar, in a single-serve sachet made up with hot water.
- Not dairy-free: the milk component is intrinsic to the drink. Not suitable for a vegan or dairy-free diet, and not a drink for anyone with a milk allergy.
- Not the unsweetened one: this is the original recipe. Kenco sell an unsweetened cappuccino sachet separately if you would rather set the sugar yourself.
- Packaging: follow the current UK pack and your local-authority guidance; the outer carton and the sachet film usually take different disposal routes.
