A selection box answers a different question from a single blend: not what you like best, but what everyone in the house might reach for. This Twinings carton gathers four long-established infusions, five bags of each, so a mixed household or a table of guests has a choice.
Four infusions, two families
The box splits into two camps. Strawberry and Raspberry is the fruit side: bright and sharp, more fresh fruit than jam, with a short, refreshing finish that suits drinking through the day. Pure Peppermint and Pure Camomile sit on the herbal side, rounder and quieter than the fruit, and Lemon and Ginger completes the set. A natural-tasting sweetness runs through the box and deepens the longer a bag steeps.
Classics is the key word on the carton. These are blends Twinings has sold for years rather than this season's new arrivals, and any recipe that survives that long in a range has usually earned its place. It is also far less likely to vanish from the shelf just as it becomes a favourite. Nothing here is sold on what it is supposed to do, only on how it tastes.
One brewing rule for all twenty bags
Every bag in the box wants the same treatment: water at a full boil, a saucer or lid over the mug, and four to six minutes. Dried fruit pieces and botanicals need real heat to release their aroma, so water that has sat in the kettle for five minutes brews visibly thinner from the same bag. Because there is no tea leaf, there is no tannin, and a longer steep will not turn anything bitter.
Each bag carries 1.75g, which is a normal fill for a fruit or herbal infusion and roughly one and a half times the weight of a black tea bag, since dried fruit and petals are bulkier, weight for weight, than chopped tea leaf. A thin cup is almost always a rushed one. The individually sealed envelopes also mean that opening the carton does not leave every bag exposed to the air.
Who the box suits, and summer serving
This is the box for a household where nobody agrees, or for guests who stay past supper and would rather choose than be asked. Five bags of each also means you will run out of your favourite long before the others, which is the real limit of any sampler. Treat it as a way to find out which blend you keep reaching for, then buy a full box of that one.
With no caffeine in any of the four, the box works as well at ten at night as at ten in the morning. In warm weather the fruit bags are the ones to try over ice, and they make a better iced drink than most things on the shelf. The mint and camomile, to our taste, are best kept for a hot mug on a cold evening.

FAQ
Which infusions are in the Fruit Herbal Classics box? Twenty bags in all: five of Lemon and Ginger, five of Pure Camomile, five of Strawberry and Raspberry and five of Pure Peppermint.
Do any of the bags contain caffeine? No. None of the four contains tea leaf, so there is no caffeine in the box.
Why does my fruit infusion taste weak? Usually it was rushed or the water had cooled. Use water at a full boil, cover the mug and give it at least four minutes.
Can I leave the bag in longer than six minutes? Yes. With no tea leaf there is no tannin, so a longer steep does no harm and tends to deepen the sweetness.
Why is each bag heavier than a black tea bag? At 1.75g, it is a normal fill for a fruit or herbal infusion, which simply needs more material in the bag than black tea does.
Curator's note: Leave the open box on the table after supper and let people help themselves. Whichever envelope runs out first tells you which full box to buy next. Lee, teas.co.uk, Tunbridge Wells.
