How To Brew Lemon, Ginger And Turmeric Tea

This is a golden, peppery, citrus lifted cup of lemon, ginger and turmeric, the sort of warming mug to reach for on a cold day. Turmeric needs heat and time to give up its colour and its gentle peppery note, so this brews longer and hotter than a fruit tea would: a full rolling boil and a good five or six minutes.

It uses Good Earth Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric, which is caffeine free. A grind of black pepper is the one trick worth knowing, as it helps the turmeric come through more clearly in the cup.

⏱ 7 min 🍽 Serves 1 📊 Easy 📚 Turmeric Recipes

You'll need

  • 1 Good Earth Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric tea bag
  • 250ml water at a full rolling boil
  • 1 teaspoon honey, to taste
  • A grind of black pepper, optional, which helps the turmeric come through
  • A slice of lemon, to finish

Method

  1. Boil fresh water to a full rolling boil; turmeric needs the full 100C to release its colour and gentle pepper note.
  2. Put the bag in the mug and pour the boiling water over.
  3. Cover and steep for 5 to 6 minutes. The longer covered steep is what makes it taste warming and full rather than thin and yellow.
  4. Lift the bag out, pressing it against the side a couple of times so all the colour goes in.
  5. Stir in honey while it is hot, with a tiny grind of black pepper, which helps the turmeric read more clearly.
  6. Finish with a slice of lemon and drink it hot; turmeric fades faster than Black Tea once it cools.
What you'll end up with: A glowing golden mug, bright with lemon, with real ginger heat and a warming turmeric base, finished with honey. Caffeine free.
