The recipe

Exact quantities, then the method.

Twinings Buttermint is an unusual one: cool peppermint leaf with a sweet butterscotch note over the top, so it drinks more like a mint dessert than a plain herbal, and there is no caffeine in it. Give it a five minute steep in just-boiled water to pull out both the mint and the butterscotch.

Makes one cup. No milk needed, though a splash leans it further towards pudding.

You'll need

  • 1 tea bag of Twinings Buttermint
  • 200ml freshly boiled water (100C)
  • A splash of milk or a little honey, to taste (optional)

Method

  1. Pop the bag into your favourite cup or mug.
  2. Pour over the freshly boiled water.
  3. Steep for 5 minutes to draw out the peppermint and butterscotch.
  4. Lift out the bag, add a splash of milk or a little honey if you like, and enjoy.
  5. Keep the cup away from strong-smelling food while it brews, as peppermint picks up other aromas easily.
What you'll end up with: A minty cup with a sweet butterscotch finish, like a mint dessert in a mug, caffeine-free.
