Twix Multipack Chocolate Biscuit & Caramel Bars 9x20g
The shortcake is the layer nobody buys this for and the only one keeping it honest. Take the biscuit out and what remains is a toffee under chocolate, sweet on sweet with nothing dry anywhere in the mouth, and the dry crumb is all that stops caramel becoming the entire event. Which is also the whole of the temperature rule: leave a bar in a warm room and the caramel works its way into the crumb, the one dry element goes, and what is left reads flat rather than spoiled. Fifteen minutes somewhere cold puts it back. Nine bars wrapped on their own is a supply for one person's afternoons rather than a plate for a room. Wheat in the base, dairy in the coating, and the rest of the list is on the pack.
Twix Multipack Chocolate Biscuit & Caramel Bars, in brief.
Twix Multipack is nine individually wrapped twenty gram bars, one hundred and eighty grams in the pack, picked into the Teas.co.uk curator selection as the pocket and lunchbox bar rather than a plate biscuit.
The build is three layers in a fixed order: a firm shortcake biscuit, a chewy caramel laid on top of it and milk chocolate over the lot. Snap, then chew, then a long sweet finish. Serve it cool, because a warm bar loses the snap and the caramel runs, and pair it with something unsweetened.
Twix in this pack is nine separate twenty gram bars rather than one large bar broken into pieces, and that single fact decides everything about how the pack gets used. One hundred and eighty grams in total, each bar sealed in its own wrapper, which is what a multipack is for: a lunchbox, a coat pocket, a car door, a tin that gets raided by people who are not going to sit down with a plate.
The bar itself is a three layer build and the order matters. A firm shortcake biscuit underneath, a layer of chewy caramel laid along the top of it, and milk chocolate over the whole thing. Nothing about that is complicated, but it is unusually well balanced for a confectionery bar, because the biscuit gives the structure a bar of chocolate alone does not have, and the caramel gives it a length of finish that a plain chocolate covered biscuit does not have. You get snap, then chew, then a long sweet fade, in that order, every time.

The Story Behind Twix
Twix is a Mars confectionery brand and has been a fixture of British corner shops and lunchboxes for decades. It belongs to a small group of bars that are genuinely three things at once rather than a chocolate bar with something stirred into it, and that construction is the whole proposition. The biscuit is baked, the caramel is laid on afterwards, the chocolate goes over the top, and each layer keeps its own texture instead of blurring into the next.
Mars is a long established confectionery company, which is company heritage rather than a claim about where this particular pack was made.
Packaging: Follow the current UK pack and local-authority guidance; components can require different disposal routes.
What You Are Actually Buying
- Nine bars, twenty grams each: one hundred and eighty grams in the pack. These are the small format bars, not the two finger bar sold on its own at a till, and that is worth knowing before you order.
- Individually wrapped: the point of the format. Each bar travels on its own, so the pack can be split across a week rather than opened once and finished.
- Contains gluten and dairy: the base is a wheat shortcake and the coating is milk chocolate, so this is not a vegan or dairy free product. For everything else, read the current UK pack.
- Not a tin biscuit: this does not go on a plate with a pot of tea and it does not dunk. It is a pocket bar and it is very good at being one.
Ideal Serving Conditions
Temperature does more to a Twix than to almost anything else on our biscuit shelf, because two of the three layers respond to it and they respond in opposite directions. Getting it right takes no effort and makes a real difference.
The Cold Bar
- Cool, not frozen: fifteen minutes somewhere cold firms the caramel and the coating, so the bar breaks cleanly and the chew is springy rather than sticky.
- Bite, do not snap: a cold Twix bitten through gives you all three textures in one go. Snapped in half first, the caramel pulls and most of it stays on one side.
- Warm rooms are the enemy: above room temperature the chocolate softens onto your fingers, the caramel runs and the biscuit loses its contrast. The bar still tastes fine, it just stops being interesting.
- Frozen is a different product: an hour in the freezer turns the caramel hard and the whole bar into something you crunch. Some people prefer it. It is worth trying once with one bar before committing the pack.
The Things This Format Does That a Single Bar Cannot
- It rations itself: nine small wrapped bars last a week in a way that one large bar does not.
- It travels: each wrapper is a sealed unit, so it survives a bag, a glovebox and a coat pocket.
- It chops: a cold bar chops into neat cubes with a heavy knife, which is why it ends up on top of traybakes and ice cream.
- It shares without a plate: handing round wrapped bars is easier than cutting up one big one, especially with children.
Getting It Right with a Hot Drink
- Pairing: a plain black coffee or a strong unsweetened black tea. Both have the bitterness to cut caramel, which is the one flavour here that goes on and on.
- Avoid: hot chocolate, sweetened tea and milky sweet coffee. They stack sugar on sugar and the bar has nothing underneath to balance it.
- Dunking: no. The chocolate melts straight off and the caramel goes soft and stringy in the cup. This is the one thing a Twix is genuinely bad at.
- Storage: cool, dry and dark, away from anything strong smelling. Chocolate takes on kitchen odours through a wrapper more readily than people expect.
- Best with: a flask on a cold walk, a lunchbox, a long drive, and a bowl of vanilla ice cream that wants chopping over the top.

The taste profile
How does it compare
Twix Multipack Chocolate Biscuit & Caramel Bars 9x20g is a pocket bar rather than a plate biscuit, but a cold one chops into neat cubes and that opens up more than the wrapper suggests. Six builds below cover the cold bar, a sundae, a no bake fridge slice, a lunchbox plan, an affogato stirrer and the freezer version.
Made with this tea
The Cold Bar
How to make The Cold Bar with Twix Multipack.
- 1 Twix bar from the multipack
- Fifteen minutes somewhere cold
- A plain black coffee or strong unsweetened tea
- Chill the bar for fifteen minutes in a cold room, or ten in the fridge on a warm day. This firms the caramel and the coating.
- Unwrap it whole and bite straight through rather than snapping it in half, so all three layers arrive together.
- Drink something unsweetened alongside. Bitterness is what cuts caramel; sugar only stacks on top of it.
- Leave the rest of the pack closed and cool. Opened and warm is how a multipack goes dull.
What you'll end up with: A clean break, a springy chew instead of a sticky one, and chocolate that stays on the bar rather than on your fingers.
Twix Rubble Sundae
How to make Twix Rubble Sundae with Twix Multipack.
- 2 cold Twix bars
- 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
- A heavy knife and a board
- A handful of raspberries
- Chill two bars hard, then chop them into rough cubes with a heavy knife. Cold chops, warm smears.
- Scoop the ice cream into two glasses and scatter half the rubble between the layers rather than all on top.
- Finish with the rest of the rubble and the raspberries, which stop the whole thing tasting of nothing but sugar.
- Serve straight away, because the caramel softens quickly against ice cream.
What you'll end up with: Three textures in a glass: cold cream, hard chocolate shards and chewy caramel that has not had time to go soft.
No Bake Twix Fridge Slice
How to make No Bake Twix Fridge Slice with Twix Multipack.
- 4 Twix bars, chilled and chopped
- 200g digestive biscuits, crushed
- 100g butter, melted
- 200g milk chocolate, melted
- A 20cm square tin, lined
- Mix the crushed digestives with the melted butter and press the mixture firmly into the lined tin.
- Scatter two chopped bars over the base and press them lightly in so they anchor.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the top and spread it level, then scatter the last two chopped bars over while it is still wet.
- Chill for at least three hours, then cut into squares with a warm knife wiped between cuts.
What you'll end up with: A fridge slice with caramel pockets in it, which is what the chopped bars are for. Keep it cold until the moment it is served.
The Week's Lunchboxes
How to make The Week's Lunchboxes with Twix Multipack.
- The full nine bar pack
- A tin or a drawer that closes
- Something sharp to go alongside
- Decant the bars into a tin the moment the pack is opened, and keep the tin somewhere cool and dark.
- Put one bar in a lunchbox at a time rather than the pack in a cupboard everyone can reach.
- Pack an apple or something else sharp alongside. Acidity is what stops a sweet bar tasting flat by Thursday.
- Nine bars covers nine school or work days, which is what the format is designed to do.
What you'll end up with: A pack that lasts nine days instead of two evenings, and bars that are still firm on the last day.
The Affogato Stirrer
How to make The Affogato Stirrer with Twix Multipack.
- 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
- 1 shot hot espresso
- 1 cold Twix bar
- Put the scoop of ice cream in a small heatproof glass and stand the cold bar upright in it.
- Pour the hot espresso over the ice cream, not over the bar, so the chocolate softens slowly instead of sliding off.
- Stir with the bar for a few seconds, then eat it while the outside is soft and the caramel has warmed through.
- Drink what is left in the glass.
What you'll end up with: A warm caramel note through a cold coffee pudding, and a bar that has softened just enough to bite easily.
Frozen Twix Bites
How to make Frozen Twix Bites with Twix Multipack.
- 3 Twix bars
- One hour in the freezer
- A small plate or box
- Cut each bar into three or four pieces before freezing, because a whole frozen bar is hard work on the teeth.
- Freeze the pieces in a single layer on a plate for an hour rather than a box where they stick together.
- Eat them straight from the freezer. The caramel goes hard and the whole thing crunches instead of chewing.
- Try three pieces before you freeze the rest of the pack, because people either love this or find it wrong.
What you'll end up with: A different product from the same bar: hard caramel, brittle chocolate and a crunch instead of a pull.

Sourcing & blend. Twix Multipack Chocolate Biscuit & Caramel Bars 9x20g is made by Mars, whose confectionery has been on British shelves for decades. What is documented is the format: nine twenty gram bars, each one a baked shortcake base with a caramel layer on top and a milk chocolate coat over both. The three layers are built separately and keep their own textures, which is the difference between this and a chocolate bar with biscuit pieces stirred through it.
What's in Twix Multipack Chocolate Biscuit & Caramel Bars 9x20g, and what isn't:
- In: a shortcake biscuit base, a chewy caramel layer and a milk chocolate coating, in nine separately wrapped twenty gram bars.
- Not vegan and not dairy free: the coating is milk chocolate and the product name says so.
- Contains gluten: the base is a wheat shortcake and it is not suitable for a coeliac diet.
- No health claim: this is a sweet confectionery bar. We claim no benefit of any kind for it and the sugar is high.
