LCurator note · Cadbury
Very few things in this part of the shelf get bought twice on purpose; this one does. It is not a biscuit anybody discovers, it is one somebody replaces, and the design serves that: same shape, same sweetness, same five bags, week after week. Cadbury's milk chocolate is why it gets picked over an own-label stick, and on a stick this small it is the first thing you taste, the plain biscuit underneath doing little more than holding the shape. The coating runs the whole way round rather than sitting on one face, which sets the limits: a warm car or a bag left near a radiator softens them and marks the wrapper, and in a hot drink the chocolate lets go before the biscuit does. Wheat and milk are both in here, so a coeliac or a dairy-free household is out, and small hard sticks want supervision with the very young.

About this product

Cadbury Mini Fingers Multipack Chocolate Biscuits, in brief.

Cadbury Mini Fingers is the small version of the finger biscuit, sold as five sealed bags of 19.3g, picked into the Teas.co.uk curator selection as a lunchbox and party-table format rather than a tea-tray one.

Shrinking a finger raises the ratio of coating to biscuit, so a mini finger reads as chocolate with a biscuit inside it rather than the other way round. Five sealed bags means the portion is a decision the pack has already taken.

This is a format built for a lunchbox and a small hand rather than for a tea tray. A bag of mini fingers is a handful of short biscuit sticks rather than one solid bar, so it is eaten a piece at a time, shares easily and stops when the bag is empty. You are buying the portioning, not the biscuit.

The Story Behind Cadbury

Cadbury's finger biscuit is one of the most recognisable shapes in a British biscuit aisle: a thin plain stick enclosed in milk chocolate, eaten in one or two bites. Mini Fingers is the shrunken version of it, and shrinking it changes the product more than you would expect, because the ratio of coating to biscuit goes up. A mini finger reads as chocolate with a biscuit inside it; a full-size one reads as a biscuit with a coating on.

Selling them in small sealed bags rather than in a tray is the other half of the design. It makes them a lunchbox item rather than a sharing one, it keeps them fresh until the bag is opened, and it makes the portion a decision the pack has already taken. That is genuinely useful with children.

Packaging: Follow the current UK pack and local-authority guidance; components can require different disposal routes.

What You Are Actually Buying

  • Five bags of nineteen point three grams: ninety-six and a half grams in total.
  • Individually bagged: each bag is sealed until it is opened, so nothing goes stale in a school bag and nothing arrives as chocolate on the inside of a lunchbox lid.
  • Enclosed in chocolate: the coating goes all the way round rather than sitting on one face. That is what makes them melt in a warm bag and what makes them hopeless for dunking.

Ideal Serving Conditions

A sealed bag of small chocolate biscuits needs very little handling advice. What it does need is a warning about heat and a note on what it is genuinely for.

The Lunchbox Serve

  • One bag is the portion: under twenty grams, and it is a decision the pack has already made. That is the main reason to buy this over a tray.
  • Straight into the bag: no box needed, though a rigid lunchbox stops the sticks arriving as pieces.
  • Keep it out of the sun: the biscuits are enclosed in chocolate, which means a warm bag turns them soft and marks the inside of the wrapper.
  • Room temperature to eat: cold from a fridge, the chocolate loses most of its flavour and reads as waxy.

The Small Hands Serve

  • Good for a party table: they are the right size to sit beside mini sandwiches, and a bag each is tidier than a tray to be raided.
  • Do not dunk: an enclosed chocolate stick softens all the way through in seconds, and the chocolate comes off into the drink.
  • Watch the fingers: chocolate all the way round means chocolate on hands. Have a cloth ready rather than a carpet.

Getting It Right with a Hot Drink

  • Pairing: a plain black tea or a black coffee for an adult, milk or squash for a child. Something unsweetened, because the biscuit is already sweet.
  • Also good with: a mug of hot chocolate as a dipper, taken out immediately rather than left to stand.
  • Avoid: dunking in tea. The chocolate is on all sides, so it melts into the cup rather than holding the biscuit together.
  • Storage: cool, dry and out of direct sun, and the bags do the rest.
  • Best with: lunchboxes, a party table, a long car journey and any occasion where a fixed small portion is the point.

Tasting notes

The taste profile

Milk Chocolate●●●●○ 4/5
The lead flavour and the reason people buy Cadbury rather than a supermarket equivalent. Sweet, creamy and unmistakable.
Biscuit●●●○○ 3/5
A light, plain stick underneath. It is there to carry the chocolate and to snap, not to be tasted on its own.
Sweetness●●●●○ 4/5
High, and higher again per gram than a full-size finger because the ratio of coating to biscuit is greater on a small stick.
Portion Control●●●●● 5/5
Five sealed bags of under twenty grams. Nothing else on our shelf portions as small as this.

Side by side

How does it compare

vs Cadbury Dairy Milk Fingers Milk Chocolate Covered Biscuits, 114gThe full-size sharing pack: bigger biscuits in one tray rather than five sealed bags. Better for a plate and for visitors, worse for a school bag.
vs McVitie's Digestives Milk Chocolate Mini Biscuits Snack Multipack 5x19g, 19gThe direct format rival. Half-coated digestive rounds rather than enclosed sticks: less sweet and less chocolatey.
vs Cadbury Animals Multipack Mini Chocolate Biscuits, 5 Biscuits 99.5gSame brand, same format, in shapes rather than sticks. The Animals for a younger child, the Mini Fingers for one who has outgrown them.

Cadbury Mini Fingers Multipack Chocolate Biscuits, 5 Biscuits 96.5g comes in five sealed bags of small chocolate-covered sticks, which makes it a lunchbox and party format first and a kitchen ingredient second. Five builds below cover the lunchbox bag, cupcake crowns, a party bowl, hot chocolate dippers and a quick sundae.

Made with this tea

The Lunchbox Bag

How to make The Lunchbox Bag with Cadbury Mini Fingers.

1 min 1 lunchbox Easy
You'll need
  • 1 sealed bag of Cadbury Mini Fingers
  • 1 satsuma
  • A carton of milk
  • A rigid lunchbox
Method
  1. Pack one sealed bag. The portion is set at under twenty grams before anyone reaches for it, which is most of the point of this format.
  2. Use a rigid lunchbox rather than a soft bag, so the sticks arrive whole.
  3. Add fruit and an unsweetened drink to balance it.
  4. Keep the box out of direct sun; chocolate on every surface softens quickly.

What you'll end up with: A fixed small portion that arrives fresh and unbroken.

Mini Finger Cupcake Crowns

How to make Mini Finger Cupcake Crowns with Cadbury Mini Fingers.

15 min 6 cupcakes Easy
You'll need
  • 2 bags of Cadbury Mini Fingers
  • 6 plain cupcakes
  • Buttercream
  • Thin ribbon
Method
  1. Ice six cupcakes with a thick layer of buttercream right to the edge; the buttercream is the glue.
  2. Stand mini fingers upright around the outside of each cake, pressed into the icing, until the ring is closed.
  3. Tie a thin ribbon round each one to hold the fence while the icing firms.
  4. Chill for twenty minutes before moving them.

What you'll end up with: The miniature version of the classic finger-biscuit fence, at the right scale for cupcakes where full-size fingers are too tall.

The Party Bowl

How to make The Party Bowl with Cadbury Mini Fingers.

3 min 1 table Easy
You'll need
  • 3 bags of Cadbury Mini Fingers
  • Grapes
  • Cubed mild cheese
  • Small bowls
Method
  1. Tip three bags into a small bowl rather than putting bags on the table. One bag is a portion for one child; a bowl is a portion for a table.
  2. Set grapes and cubed mild cheese beside them so there is something that is not sweet.
  3. Hold back the other two bags in the cupboard, sealed.
  4. Have a cloth ready. Chocolate on every surface means chocolate on hands.

What you'll end up with: Tidier than a raided tray, and the right scale next to mini sandwiches. Two bags stay fresh for the next occasion.

Hot Chocolate Dippers

How to make Hot Chocolate Dippers with Cadbury Mini Fingers.

5 min 2 mugs Easy
You'll need
  • 1 bag of Cadbury Mini Fingers
  • 2 mugs of hot chocolate
  • Whipped cream
Method
  1. Make two mugs of hot chocolate and top each with a little whipped cream.
  2. Dip a mini finger and take it straight back out. Chocolate on all sides means it melts into the drink if you leave it in.
  3. Eat it at once rather than resting it on the saucer.
  4. Stand two more in the cream as a garnish for the next sip.

What you'll end up with: The one hot-drink use these are good for, and the only one. Do not try the same thing with a mug of tea.

Two-Minute Sundae

How to make Two-Minute Sundae with Cadbury Mini Fingers.

5 min 2 sundaes Easy
You'll need
  • 1 bag of Cadbury Mini Fingers
  • 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • Chocolate sauce
Method
  1. Scoop two scoops of vanilla ice cream into each of two glasses.
  2. Snap half the bag of mini fingers into short pieces and scatter them between the scoops.
  3. Stand the remaining whole sticks upright in the top.
  4. Finish with chocolate sauce and serve immediately, while the biscuit still snaps.

What you'll end up with: A pudding out of one nineteen-gram bag, built and eaten in five minutes. The sticks go soft if you make it in advance.

Sourcing & blend. Cadbury Mini Fingers Multipack Chocolate Biscuits, 5 Biscuits 96.5g is made by Cadbury, and the finger biscuit is one of the most recognisable shapes in a British biscuit aisle: a thin plain stick enclosed in milk chocolate. The mini version is the same idea shrunk, which raises the ratio of coating to biscuit and makes the chocolate the lead rather than the finish. Putting them in five small sealed bags rather than a tray is the other half of the design, turning a sharing biscuit into a lunchbox one and taking the portion decision out of anybody's hands.

What's in Cadbury Mini Fingers Multipack Chocolate Biscuits, 5 Biscuits 96.5g, and what isn't:

  • In: five sealed bags of small biscuit sticks enclosed in milk chocolate, 19.3g a bag and 96.5g in the multipack.
  • Contains cereal and gluten: not suitable for a coeliac diet.
  • No vegan or dairy-free claim: a milk chocolate product is very unlikely to be either, but the pack makes that statement and we do not.
