The Standard Cup (Tropical Sun Tulsi)

Holy basil, neat: savoury and aromatic like culinary basil, carrying a clove and anise warmth. Caffeine free and unusual.

The Standard Cup (Tropical Sun Tulsi)

Tropical Sun Tulsi is pure holy basil leaf, and it tastes more like culinary basil than any sweet European herbal: savoury and aromatic, with a gentle clove and anise warmth running through it. Caffeine free and quietly distinctive, it is a cup with genuine character that takes well to honey or lemon.

⏱ 6 min 🍽 Makes 1 mug 📊 Easy 📚 Fruit Tea Recipes

You'll need

  • 1 tea bag of Tropical Sun Tulsi
  • 250ml freshly boiled water (100C)
  • Honey, optional, to taste
  • A slice of lemon, optional

Method

  1. Pop the tulsi bag in your favourite mug.
  2. Pour over the freshly boiled water and leave to steep for 5 minutes so the basil aroma comes through.
  3. Lift out the bag without squeezing it.
  4. Taste, and add a little honey or a slice of lemon, both of which suit the savoury basil note.
  5. Sip warm and enjoy the aromatic, herbal cup.
  6. Tulsi divides first time tasters; its savoury, basil like note surprises people, so try a second cup.
What you'll end up with: A savoury, caffeine free cup that drinks more like fresh basil than tea, with a soft clove and anise edge.
