Moringa Green Tea Breakfast Smoothie

A thick, bright green smoothie built on cooled moringa green tea, frozen banana, avocado, spinach and a little honey.

Moringa Green Tea Breakfast Smoothie

This is a proper green breakfast in a glass, with cooled moringa Green Tea standing in for some of the usual liquid. The tea brings a faint, clean lift behind the banana and avocado, which do the real work on texture: banana for sweetness, avocado for a thick, creamy body.

Spinach folds into the colour and disappears in the flavour, so even people who claim to dislike it never notice. Makes one tall glass.

⏱ 15 min 🍽 Serves 1 (makes 500ml) 📊 Easy 📚 Green Tea Recipes

You'll need

  • 2 Dalgety Moringa with Green Tea bags
  • 100ml freshly drawn water, brought to a rolling boil then left for 2 minutes to drop to about 80C
  • 1 large fresh banana, peeled and frozen (about 120g)
  • A generous handful of fresh baby spinach leaves (about 30g)
  • Half a fresh ripe avocado, peeled and stone removed (about 80g)
  • 200ml cold whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon of clear runny honey
  • 1 small handful of cubed ice (optional, for the serving glass)
  • 1 tall 500ml glass
  • 1 small heatproof jug
  • 1 jug blender
  • 1 metal straw

Method

  1. Brew two tea bags in 100ml of water at around 80C for three minutes, then lift them out without squeezing.
  2. Stand the jug in a bowl of cold water for a few minutes to cool the tea right down.
  3. Peel and break the frozen banana into a few pieces and drop it in the blender.
  4. Add the spinach, avocado, milk and honey, then pour in the cooled tea.
  5. Pulse on low for twenty seconds to break everything down, then blend on high for about forty seconds until smooth and bright green.
  6. If it is too thick to pour, loosen it with a splash more milk and pulse again.
  7. Pour over a little ice and drink straight away, before the avocado dulls the colour.
What you'll end up with: A thick, vivid green glass that drinks like a light breakfast: sweet from the banana, creamy from the avocado, with a faint clean note of green tea behind it and no real trace of the spinach.
