"content_text": "Tassimo Kenco Americano Smooth: Mild, Not Weak, in summary: Smooth refers to bitterness, not strength: a fully caffeinated black americano with the harsh edge taken off. It is the disc for a house where someone finds pod coffee bitter, and it takes a splash of milk well.\nLast reviewed by the teas.co.uk team in September 2026.\nA black americano has no milk, foam or sweetness to carry it, which makes it the plainest test a Tassimo can face. This disc passes by keeping the bitterness down while leaving the caffeine and the body where they belong.\nBitterness is the dial \nCoffee picks up bitterness in several ways: from the roast itself, from brewing too long, and from compounds that build up the darker a bean is taken. A recipe sold as smooth pulls back on all of them. The catch is aroma. The chemistry that makes a coffee smell loud is the same chemistry that makes it bitter, so a cup built to be gentle on the tongue is quieter in the steam as well.\nWhat that leaves here is a round, easy black coffee with restrained roasted depth, little bitterness and a short, clean finish with nothing stale behind it. It is fully caffeinated. The word smooth tempts people to assume weak or decaf, and it is neither; it simply lacks the sharp edge that sends some drinkers reaching for milk and sugar before they have tasted anything.\nOne change per Kenco box \nKenco's black Tassimo boxes look alike on a shelf, but each one changes a different thing. The Grande and Grande XL change how much lands in the mug. The Decaff changes the caffeine. The 100% Colombian changes where the coffee comes from. This one changes the bitterness, and every one of them is still a single disc for a single black mug.\nSo choose by the complaint. If the coffee in your house tastes harsh, this is the answer. If it tastes thin, look for something darker, because Smooth will not hit hard. If the complaint is that nobody can have a coffee at ten at night, that is the job of the Decaff box on the same machine, not this one.\nBlack, or with a splash \nWith its gentle edge and mid-weight body, it may surprise people who normally take milk and sugar into drinking it black. It also accepts a splash of milk without turning into a beige, featureless mug, which matters when one machine has to satisfy somebody who drinks it black and somebody who never would.\nSixteen discs make sixteen mugs, or just over a fortnight for someone drinking one a day. Keep the carton dry and the printed barcodes unscratched, since the brewer has to read them, and remember that T DISCs run only in Tassimo machines. Used discs can go through Podback, the free UK pod recycling service Tassimo helped to found.\nThe packs we stock \n\nTassimo Kenco Americano Smooth Coffee, 16 Pods (barcode 7622300047030)\n\nWhat to eat with it \n\nBorder Lemon Drizzle Melts Organic Biscuits, 150g: A lemony biscuit that a gentle black coffee will not overpower.\nMcVitie's Hobnobs Milk Chocolate Biscuits, 262g: A milk chocolate Hobnob beside a round, easy mug, whether you dunk it or not.\nMaryland Minis Double Chocolate Chip Cookies Mini Bags Multipack, 6 Pack 118.8g: Small bags of double chocolate cookies suit a mid-morning mug without committing to a whole packet.\n\nElsewhere in the Tassimo range \nTassimo Cadbury Hot Chocolate, 8 Pods 240gTassimo Cadbury Mocha, 10 Pods 160gTassimo Costa Americano Coffee, 12 Pods 108gTassimo Costa Cappuccino Coffee, 6 PodsTassimo Costa Caramel Latte Coffee, 6 Pods 173.4gTassimo Costa Latte Coffee, 6 Pods\nThe full range is on the Tassimo brand page.\nFAQ\nDoes smooth mean weak? No. It describes the bitterness, not the strength, and the coffee is fully caffeinated.\nIs Kenco Americano Smooth a decaf? No. For coffee late in the day on the same brewer, buy the Kenco Americano Decaff box.\nWhich Kenco disc suits me if pod coffee tastes thin? A darker disc rather than this one. Smooth fixes harshness, not thinness.\nHow long does a box of Smooth last? Sixteen mugs, so just over a fortnight at one a day.\nCurator's note: If the americano from your machine disappoints, no other disc will rescue it, which is why I would start a new Tassimo owner on this one. Black first, then decide about milk.
