"content_text": "Tassimo Costa Americano: The Everyday Black Disc, in summary: Twelve T DISCs, twelve long black mugs with a dark, toasted, faintly cocoa character and very little acidity. The barcode fixes the water, so for a stronger cup use a smaller mug rather than topping up.\nLast reviewed by the teas.co.uk team in September 2026.\nThis is the Tassimo disc for people who drink coffee by the mug: long, black and dark-toasted, with a high-street character rather than a bright, fruity one. The machine reads the disc and finishes by itself, which keeps the cup at seven in the morning the same as the cup at noon.\nWhat the barcode decides for you \nEvery T DISC carries a printed barcode that the machine reads before it brews, and that code sets the brewing time, temperature and water volume for the drink. For this disc it means a full mug of black coffee from a single disc, with nothing measured by hand. The same brewer can therefore turn out a mug of black coffee and a milky latte back to back without anyone adjusting a thing.\nThe flip side is that you cannot ask it for more strength. The disc, not the user, decides the water, so the lever you do have is the cup. A smaller mug gives the same coffee in a more concentrated form, and if you want a big drink that still tastes strong, use two discs. Adding kettle water afterwards just dilutes it. None of this transfers to other systems: the discs work in Tassimo machines only.\nDark, toasted and low in acidity \nBrightness and fruit are not what this disc is about. The roast is dark and toasted with a faint cocoa note, the body is medium, and the bitterness is noticeable without being aggressive. There is almost no acidity at all. Plenty of people want exactly that with breakfast; anyone who has got used to lighter, fruitier coffees will find it heavy going, and should look elsewhere rather than blame the machine.\nAmong the Tassimo discs we stock, this is the Costa black coffee, while the Costa Latte, Cappuccino and Caramel Latte are the milky Costa drinks. If you want to compare long black styles, the Kenco Americano Grande, Americano Smooth and Americano Decaff all run on the same machine, which makes it easy to keep a caffeinated and a decaf box side by side for different people in the house.\nMilk, mugs and what to eat \nIt takes milk well. A splash turns it into a white Americano, and filling a third of the mug with milk moves it towards a milky filter coffee without the roast disappearing. Drunk straight, the finish is dry and clean, with the roast lingering for a few seconds. Drink it soon after brewing, since the aroma is strongest the moment the machine stops and fades as the mug sits.\nUsed discs can go through Podback, the UK's free pod recycling service, as Tassimo is a founding partner; follow the current pack and your council for the carton. Beside the mug, a dark roast with cocoa notes suits chocolate biscuits and cookies better than anything delicate, and a lemon biscuit makes a bright contrast with a coffee that has so little acidity of its own.\nThe packs we stock \n\nTassimo Costa Americano Coffee, 12 Pods 108g (barcode 8711000852736)\n\nWhat to eat with it \n\nMaryland Cookies Double Chocolate, 200g: The cocoa in the cookie lines up with the faint cocoa note in the roast.\nMcVitie's Hobnobs Milk Choc Jumbo Pack Biscuits, 431g: A jumbo pack of milk chocolate Hobnobs, for the household that gets through a box of twelve discs quickly.\nBorder Lemon Drizzle Melts Organic Biscuits, 150g: Lemon brings a bright, sharp note to set against a coffee with almost no acidity.\n\nElsewhere in the Tassimo range \nTassimo Cadbury Hot Chocolate, 8 Pods 240gTassimo Cadbury Mocha, 10 Pods 160gTassimo Costa Cappuccino Coffee, 6 PodsTassimo Costa Caramel Latte Coffee, 6 Pods 173.4gTassimo Costa Latte Coffee, 6 PodsTassimo Kenco Americano Decaff Coffee, 16 Pods\nThe full range is on the Tassimo brand page.\nFAQ\nWhat kind of coffee does the Tassimo Costa Americano make? A mug of long black Americano rather than a small espresso. The disc's barcode tells the machine how much water to use.\nHow many cups are in a box? Twelve. One disc makes one mug.\nCan I make it stronger? Use a smaller mug, or two discs for a big drink at full strength. Holding a button or topping up with kettle water will not help.\nDoes it take milk? Yes, happily. A splash gives a white Americano, and more milk takes it towards a milky filter coffee.\nWill these discs fit a Nespresso or Dolce Gusto? No. They are T DISCs for Tassimo machines only.\nCurator's note: Seven in the morning, a warmed mug, a splash of milk. It is not trying to be interesting, and on a weekday that is exactly the point.
