"content_text": "Oreo BTS Brown Sugar Pancake: The Purple Oreo, in summary: The BTS collaboration Oreo changes both halves of the classic: purple wafers coloured with anthocyanins, embossed with designs BTS chose, around a brown sugar pancake creme modelled on Korean hotteok. It is very sweet, so pour something plain.\nLast reviewed by the teas.co.uk team in September 2026.\nThis is the first Oreo made with purple wafers, and the creme between them takes its cue from hotteok, a Korean pancake with a molten brown sugar centre. It is a collaboration edition with BTS, made to be looked at as much as eaten.\nPurple wafers and 13 designs \nNearly everything about the look has changed. The wafers are purple, a first for Oreo, and the colour comes from anthocyanins. In place of the familiar pattern they carry 13 embossed designs that BTS picked as a tribute to their fans. It is a pack worth opening slowly and laying out on a plate, design side up, before anybody starts eating.\nThe change goes deeper than the colour. The classic Oreo wafer brings a dark, slightly bitter edge that keeps a sweet creme in check. This wafer is sweet and crisp instead, and going by the UK ingredient list it contains no cocoa at all, so the biscuit loses that brake and leans sweet from the outside to the middle. It keeps the familiar Oreo snap, though it softens quickly once it meets a drink, so any dunk should be very short.\nBrown sugar pancake, explained \nHotteok is a Korean pancake with a filling of melted brown sugar, and the creme is built to echo it. Where the standard Oreo creme reads as vanilla sweetness, this one tastes of caramelised sugar, deeper and closer to toffee, with a warm, syrupy finish. The creme carries the flavour story of the pack, while the purple wafers and the designs are the collaboration's calling card.\nSet it beside the rest of our Oreo shelf and the differences are clear. The Original pairs dark cocoa wafers with vanilla creme and is less sweet, with more bitterness at the edges. Golden uses golden vanilla wafers with vanilla creme. The BTS pack is the one where both halves are new, and as a collaboration edition it is not a standing part of the range, so it will not be around for ever.\nWhat to pour, and how to keep it \nWith sweetness in both wafer and creme, the drink has to be the plain partner. A malty breakfast tea with milk works, as does a milky coffee or the old Oreo standby, a glass of cold milk, which rounds off the caramel note well. A strong Earl Grey with milk also suits it, the bergamot adding a bright note against the brown sugar. Two or three biscuits is plenty.\nAvoid anything sweetened or syrup-flavoured in the cup, which only stacks sugar on sugar. Keep the pack cool, dry and sealed, and fold it shut after opening so the wafers keep their crispness; a sweet wafer that has gone soft has lost the one texture it had. It needs no preparation, and room temperature from a freshly opened pack is how it eats best.\nThe packs we stock \n\nOreo BTS Brown Sugar Pancake Cocoa Sandwich Biscuit Pack, 157g (barcode 7622202830990)\n\nWhat to drink with it \n\nTeapigs Earl Grey Strong, 15 Tea Bags 37.5g: A strong black Earl Grey takes milk well, and the bergamot gives a caramel-sweet creme a bright edge to work against.\nBrew Tea Co Earl Grey Proper, 15 Tea Bags 45g: Another robust Earl Grey for a milky mug beside a very sweet biscuit.\nNescafe Gold Blend Intense Instant Coffee, 190g: Made with plenty of milk, an intense instant coffee is the easy route to the milky coffee this biscuit suits.\nStarbucks Espresso Roast by NESPRESSO Coffee, Dark Roast, Box of 36, 198g: A dark-roast Nespresso capsule for a latte, its roast playing well against brown sugar.\n\nElsewhere in the Oreo range \nOreo Chocolate Brownie Sandwich Biscuits, 154gOreo Cookie Dough Flavour Cocoa Sandwich Biscuit Pack, 157gOreo Crunchy Bites Original Vanilla Biscuits, 110gOreo Double Creme Cocoa Sandwich Cookies with Vanilla Flavour Biscuits Pack, 157gOreo Gingerbread Flavour Sandwich Biscuit, Limited Edition, 154gOreo Golden Cookie Sandwich Biscuits, 154g\nThe full range is on the Oreo brand page.\nFAQ\nWhy is the BTS Oreo purple? It was made for the BTS collaboration and is the first purple Oreo wafer. The colour comes from anthocyanins.\nWhat is hotteok? A Korean pancake with a molten brown sugar filling. The creme in this Oreo is inspired by it, so it tastes of caramelised sugar rather than vanilla.\nWhat are the designs on the wafers? There are 13 embossed designs that BTS picked for their fans, replacing the usual Oreo pattern.\nWhat should I drink with the BTS Oreo? Keep the cup plain: tea with milk, such as a breakfast blend or a strong Earl Grey, coffee with plenty of milk, or cold milk on its own.\nIs it a permanent Oreo flavour? No. It is a collaboration edition, so it is not a standing part of the Oreo range.\nCurator's note: Lay a few out design side up before anyone reaches in, because spotting the designs is half the fun. Then a plain breakfast tea with milk, and stop at three.
