"content_text": "McVitie's Club Orange, in summary: Orange brightens the heavy Club covering without thinning it. The box holds seven wrapped 22g bars; eat them at room temperature with strong, unsweetened tea or black coffee, and never dunk.\nLast reviewed by the teas.co.uk team in September 2026.\nThe orange and mint Clubs look interchangeable on a shelf, but they pull the chocolate in opposite directions. Mint slices through it and leaves the bar tasting lighter; orange settles into it and makes it taste brighter, while keeping every bit of its weight.\nCovered, not topped \nClub Orange does all of its work in the covering. The biscuit is sealed inside chocolate thick enough to act as a frame rather than a flavour, so nearly everything you taste comes from the outer layer. The orange lives in that layer too: cocoa and sugar reach you first, and the orange follows a beat later, rising out of the chocolate itself as it warms in the mouth instead of sitting in a band of its own.\nThe published ingredient list for this barcode names wheat, milk and soya, and the nutrition panel gives 39.5g of sugars per 100g. That is a treat bar rather than a plain biscuit, so the drink beside it has to do the balancing. If a plain chocolate Club has ever seemed a little flat by mid-afternoon, the orange is the one to try.\nRoom temperature brings the orange out \nOrange flavour travels on volatile compounds that need some warmth before they will leave the chocolate. A bar taken from a chilly cupboard in winter gives off very little, and one from the fridge even less. Warm it in your hand for a minute, or eat it in a heated room, and the citrus reaches you before you have even bitten. The bar is identical either way; only its willingness to release the orange differs.\nThe individual wrapper protects exactly the part that matters. A covered bar wears its flavour on the outside, so unwrapped it would scuff, soften and take on the smell of whatever shares the tin. Sealed one by one, the final bar tastes as fresh as the one you opened first, which is why Club bars cope so well with lunchboxes and car door pockets.\nStrong, black and unsweetened \nWhat clears a thick sweet covering from the palate is bitterness, either the tannin of a well-brewed tea or the roast of a coffee. A strong black tea brewed for four minutes without sugar does it well, and so does an unsweetened black coffee. Add sugar or plenty of milk and you are stacking sweetness on sweetness, which turns cloying fast. Skip the dunk, too: the orange lives in the covering, and warm tea simply washes it off into the mug.\nChoosing between the three Club multipacks we stock comes down to what you want from the chocolate. Go for mint if a heavy covering tires you, orange if the covering is the whole attraction and you want it brighter, and salted caramel if you fancy a different direction altogether. All three share the same wrapped, seven-bar format, so the choice is purely about flavour.\nThe packs we stock \n\nMcVitie's Club Orange Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 Bars 154g (barcode 5000168210421)\n\nWhat the label says \nThe published ingredient list for McVitie's Club Orange Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 Bars 154g (barcode 5000168210421) says it contains wheat (gluten), milk and soya. Mint works against the chocolate so the bar tastes lighter; orange brightens it while leaving its richness intact.\nShould Club Orange be eaten cold? No. Citrus aroma needs a little warmth to reach you, so a bar from the fridge or a cold cupboard tastes muted. Room temperature is best.\nWhich allergens does the Club Orange label name? The published ingredient list for this barcode says it contains wheat (gluten), milk and soya. Always check the current pack.\nWhat happens if you dunk Club Orange? It is not worth it. The flavour sits in the outer covering, and warm tea carries it away into the cup.\nWhy is each bar wrapped separately? Because the covering is on the outside, where it would otherwise scuff and pick up cupboard smells. Wrapped, every bar stays as good as the first.\nCurator's note: Take one out of the cupboard while the kettle boils so it warms a little, then have it with a strong cup and no sugar. That short wait is the difference between a faint orange and a proper one.
