"content_text": "McVitie's Club Layers Orange, in summary: A single 39g bar built in bands, so it gives way rather than snaps and the orange runs through the middle. Serve it at room temperature, unwrapped a minute early, beside a strong black tea.\nLast reviewed by the teas.co.uk team in September 2026.\nThe word to read on this wrapper is Layers. The classic Club puts a lot of chocolate around a small biscuit, but this bar is built in bands, which changes how it breaks and where the orange sits.\nBands instead of a covering \nThe Club has long meant plenty of chocolate on a comparatively small biscuit, each bar wrapped on its own. Layers keeps the wrapper and the orange but changes the build. Instead of a biscuit with chocolate around it, the bar is stacked in bands, so it yields under the teeth rather than snapping, and the orange runs through the centre of the bar instead of sitting only in the outer chocolate.\nThat matters more in the eating than a flavour list would suggest. Because the chocolate is not carrying all of the flavour, people who normally give up on coated bars as too sugary may be pleasantly caught out. People who grew up on the older single-biscuit Club will notice the change in the first bite, and some will prefer the original; the Club Orange multipack is still on our shelf for them.\nOrange first, cocoa second \nOrange and chocolate get along because they occupy different parts of the mouth. Citrus flavour lives in volatile oils: bright, sharp, quick to reach you and quick to clear. Cocoa is heavier and more bitter, and it settles towards the back of the palate. Neither crowds the other, which is why orange has outlasted flavours that only add more sugar. Here the orange is bright and oil-led rather than juicy, which suits chocolate well.\nTwo small habits follow from that. Open the wrapper a minute before eating, because citrus aroma needs air and a bar straight from a sealed wrapper holds much of it back. And keep it out of the fridge: cold slows evaporation, and the orange is the first thing to go flat. A cupboard at room temperature, out of direct sun, is the right home for it.\nOne bar, one cup \nAt thirty-nine grams, wrapped and finished in one sitting, this is a decision about one person and one break: a lunchbox, a desk drawer, a bag for the journey. Buy the single bar to find out whether the layered build suits you; buy the seven-bar Club Orange multipack if you already know you want the classic covering.\nDo not dunk it. Warm tea softens the chocolate, and it slides away into the cup rather than reaching your mouth. Drink alongside instead: a strong everyday black tea with milk is the dependable answer, and Earl Grey makes an interesting doubling up, since bergamot is also a citrus oil and the two reinforce each other. For coffee, keep it black.\nThe packs we stock \n\nMcVitie's Club Layers Orange, 39g (barcode 5000168007298)\n\nWhat to drink with it \n\nClipper Fairtrade Everyday Tea, 80 Pack 232g: a sturdy everyday black tea, brewed strong with milk, that gives the bar's sweetness something to lean on.\nBarry's Tea Gold Blend, 80 Tea Bags 250g: a brisk, full breakfast blend that keeps pace with orange and chocolate together.\nDragonfly Organic Cape Chai Rooibos, 40 Tea Bags 80g: warm spice alongside orange and chocolate makes a wintry trio, and a rooibos chai brings it without a heavy black brew.\n\nElsewhere in the McVitie's range \nMcVitie's Club Mint Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 Bars 154gMcVitie's Club Orange Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 Bars 154gMcVitie's Club Salted Caramel Flavour Biscuit Bars Multipack, 7 x 22gMcVitie's Dark Chocolate Digestive Biscuits, 266gMcVitie's Digestive Pink Raspberry & Cream Flavour, Limited Edition, 232gMcVitie's Digestives Biscuits The Light One, 250g\nThe full range is on the McVitie's brand page.\nFAQ\nWhat does Layers mean on a Club bar? It describes the build: the bar is made in bands rather than as a biscuit inside a chocolate covering, so it gives way instead of snapping.\nHow is it different from the Club Orange multipack? The multipack is seven wrapped bars of the classic covered Club. Layers is a single 39g bar with the banded build and orange carried through its centre.\nShould Club Layers Orange go in the fridge? No. Cold mutes citrus aroma sooner than anything else in the bar, so the orange is the first casualty.\nIs Club Layers Orange any good for dunking? Best not. Warm tea loosens the chocolate and it ends up in the cup rather than in your mouth.\nWhat tea goes with Club Layers Orange? A strong black tea with milk, or an Earl Grey if you want the bergamot to echo the orange.\nCurator's note: Unwrap it and leave it on the saucer while the tea brews, then eat it at room temperature. The orange is the reason to buy this bar, so give it that minute of air.
