## Description

Jammie Dodgers Mango & Passionfruit: The Sharp One, in summary: The tropical Jammie Dodger swaps the familiar red centre for a golden one that is sharp rather than jammy. That acidity changes the pairing rules: brew lighter, reach for Darjeeling or Earl Grey, and save builder's tea for raspberry.
Last reviewed by the teas.co.uk team in September 2026.
Passionfruit brings something the classic Jammie Dodger does not have, a real sharpness that clears the sugar instead of leaving it behind. That makes this the liveliest biscuit of the family on its own and the fussiest one to put beside a cup.
Golden centre, familiar shortcake
The biscuit around the filling is the Jammie Dodgers shortcake you already know: soft, sandy and meant to crumble at the edge rather than snap. What changes is the middle, which shows through the heart-shaped window as a deep golden orange instead of red. That colour is the quickest way to tell the packs apart on a plate, because the shortcake smells the same whichever flavour you pick up.
Inside, the two fruits split the work. Passionfruit does the cutting with a bright, almost sherbet-like tang, and mango sits behind it supplying body and roundness. Mango alone would vanish against the biscuit, and passionfruit alone would taste thin and sour; together they make a centre that is noticeably livelier than the jam in the raspberry original.
Sweet up front, clean at the finish
Set it beside the raspberry pack and the contrast is plain. Raspberry reads as jam against shortcake and sits comfortably with it; this reads closer to sherbet, with an acid edge that lands early and takes over more of the biscuit. We carry the cherry and strawberry versions in the same 140g size too, but this is the pack for anyone who wants a filled biscuit with some bite to it.
It does taste sweet, sweeter than raspberry at first, since tropical fruit flavours read sweeter than red fruit. Then the passionfruit clears the palate rather than leaving a coat of sugar, so the finish is short and clean. That is why we like it mid-afternoon with company: one leads naturally to another, because no sugary coating lingers the way it does after a richer filling.
Brew lighter than you think
Acidity and heavy tannin fight each other, so the usual Jammie Dodgers advice, a builder's-strength mug, does not work here. Go gentler. A Darjeeling brewed for a couple of minutes, or a black tea taken out early with plenty of milk, lets the fruit stay bright. A light green tea brewed at around 80 degrees is gentler still, with very little tannin to argue with the passionfruit.
Scented teas are the other good route. The bergamot in an Earl Grey meets the tropical fruit halfway instead of flattening it, and a Lady Grey works in the same spirit. Whatever you pour, do not dunk: the window lets hot tea straight into the centre, which softens well before the shortcake does, so even a second in the mug is pushing it.

FAQ
What do mango and passionfruit Jammie Dodgers taste like? Sharp and bright, closer to sherbet than jam, with passionfruit doing the cutting and mango rounding it off inside the familiar shortcake.
Are they sweeter than the raspberry ones? They taste sweeter at first, but the passionfruit clears the palate, so the finish is shorter and cleaner.
What tea goes with mango and passionfruit biscuits? Something lighter than usual: a Darjeeling, an Earl Grey, or a black tea taken out early with plenty of milk. Strong builder's tea fights the acidity.
Will a mango and passionfruit Jammie Dodger survive a dunk? Not really. A second is the limit, because the window lets tea into the centre and it softens fast.
How can I tell which flavour I have picked up? Look through the heart. This centre shows golden orange, where the raspberry original shows red.
Curator's note: Put these out when the pot has Earl Grey in it rather than the builder's brew. Whatever the bright wrapper suggests, they are the grown-up pick of the family. Lee, teas.co.uk, Tunbridge Wells.
