The Standard PG Tips Loose Leaf Cup
teas.co.uk · 4 min · Serves 1
You'll need
- 1 level teaspoon (about 2.5g) PG Tips Loose Leaf Tea
- 250ml freshly drawn water, brought to a full rolling boil
- A small mesh infuser or a one cup teapot with a strainer
- A splash of cold milk, to taste
- Sugar or honey, optional
Method
- Boil fresh water fully. Loose leaf wants the same 100C as bags but the surface area is bigger, so it extracts faster.
- Put 1 level teaspoon of loose leaf in the infuser or pot. Underdose rather than overdose; loose leaf goes bitter quicker than a bag.
- Pour the boiling water over and steep 3 minutes; that is enough for full body. 4 minutes is the absolute limit before tannin.
- Lift out the infuser, or pour through a strainer if using a teapot, so no leaf carries over.
- Add milk after the leaf is out, so the brew stays hot and finishes extracting.
- Drink at once; loose leaf cools as fast as a bag and is best hot.
